Basics, Ideas, & Practice
GoogleSlides:TheBasics
As we’ve already mentioned, Slides is Google’s answer to PowerPoint, Keynote, etc. Like
Docs, it is web-based, free to use, and has most (or even more) of the features of any
other popular slide presentation program. Things you need to know:
Variety of themes, templates, and hundreds of fonts
You can embed video, animations, and more
Access your presentations from any device, anywhere, even if you’re offline
Saves automatically
Works with Powerpoint, and vice versa
You can present in a variety of places without wires
Take a few minutes to explore at https://www.google.com/slides/about/ and then come on
back for some great ideas of how to use Slides in the classroom.
GoogleSlides:IdeasforUse
Of course, one of the best features of Slides is your ability to collaborate but we’ll get
to that later! Here are some ideas for your classroom:
Create a class thank you presentation where each student gets to write their message of
thanks on a slide - email it instead of putting all those cards in the mail
Screencast a Slides presentation to create the perfect flipped classroom lesson
Add images and text to slideshows to create a simple story for your lesson or let
students do the same to show you their comprehension of a story
Create, or have students create, a virtual vocabulary list
Screenshot scenes from Google Earth to take a virtual tour or field trip
Create a storyboard to brainstorm a writing project
Create a visual outline of a chapter
GoogleSlides:Practice
We’re not going to be creating a Slides presentation for this
course but later in the course, you will collaborate with your
colleagues on a Slides presentation so pay attention to the
helpful hints that follow.
Creating a Slides presentation is very similar to creating a
PowerPoint. Follow the beginning instructions for creating a
Doc (found in the course), just choose Slides from the drop
down menu (seen here).
You can choose a blank presentation and name your presentation
in much the same way you did for Docs. A few more helpful hints
follow to get you started.
GoogleSlides:HelpfulHints
Click here to go back to the Slides
homepage.
for a blank slide or the
dropdown for slide
templates) to add a
slide.
change your theme.
your presentation in
full screen.
TheEnd
Navigate back to the course to continue -
we’re in Topic 1 and moving on to Google Sheets!
