4. What is gyanandromorphy? How does this happen?
Solution
Answer : Gynandromorphy is a phenamenan in which there is an occurence of both male and
female charectorstics in a single individual (part of the body expresses as male charectors, where
as the other part express female charectors. Individuals with this phenotype are called
gynandromorphs.
It results due to the loss of an X chromosome in a particular cell during development through
mitosis.For instance, a cell with XY through mitosis produces XXYY upon duplication which in
turn divides to form XY cells. But in gynandromorphs, this cell divides into an X cell and an
XYY cells. Due to this the organism develops with both male and female charectors.
