Block operation: Paper 215
• Titel: Grid Operation 2025 - Digitalisation for Distribution System Operators
• Bijdrage uit Oostenrijk
• Samenvatting: In the next decade, the requirements for grid operation will become more and more
demanding. The challenges will be multifaceted: a further increase in decentralized infeeds, a constantly
changing direction of the load flow, the installation of various smart grid applications and new market
players for ancillary services even at lower voltage levels. To face this new demands, grid operators have to
take prescient measures and appropriate efforts already at an early stage. One solution is the digitalisation
of existing processes, the development of new applications and the installation of interfaces between the
various grid operation tools. In 2017, the Austrian association of electricity companies, “Oesterreichs
Energie”, established a working group containing representatives of ten DSO’s, to summarize the prospects
regarding the digitalisation in grid operation. The results were compiled in a guideline, which was published
in 2018 with a clear focus on the operation of distribution grids considering the expected developments in
the coming years. Therefore, this paper introduces a guideline for digitalisation trends for distribution
system operators with a main focus on the security of supply, a fast and efficient fault localization and
restoration, new solutions for customer interaction and an emergency Management.
Block operation: Paper 215
Special report: Future System Operation is regarded in paper 0215 based on an Austrian report,
published by the Austrian association of electricity companies. A group of DSOs has elaborated
future perspectives on changes of ancillary services and requirements for data exchange for
TSODSO interface and on upcoming mapping of even LV grids with digitalization. Automation in the
fields of work force management, customer interaction and information systems are discussed.
Zijn er in Nederland ook initiatieven om
de data uitwisseling tussen TSO en DSO
t/m de laagspanning te regelen?
Block control: Paper 1928
Titel: Improved Supervision and Control of the LV Portuguese Network
Bijdrage uit Portugal EDP/CGI
Samenvatting: One of today’s DSO main challenges is the implementation of large scale tools to
improve the control and supervision over the LV grid. Because new business models are being
developed and the great majority of the new Distributed Energy Resources (DER) is being connected
to the LV network the need for new control and operational tools arises. EDP Distribuição (EDPD)
has launched, as part of the Horizon 2020 UPGRID project, a pilot project that aims at supporting
the management and control of LV network. This paper presents the IT solution concept developed
by CGI under EDPD specifications in the scope of the project and shows the impact, applicability and
benefits of using the new era of smart grid infrastructure data to enable a more reliable and
efficient LV network.
Block control: Paper 1928
Special report: The paper does not only focus on the operation in dispatch centres but also the
need for mobile applications which can be used by field teams. The demonstration has been done in
a real case of a Portuguese DSO. The authors of LV automation sub block focus on the needs for new
functionalities due to the increasing number of distributed generation as well as new possibilities
for grid automation based on the growing amounts of smart meter information. Finally, the
question of cost-efficient solutions for DSO as well as sustainable use-cases is an open point which
has to be solved before widespread implementations will be started.

Block Protection: Paper 341
Titel: 5G networks enabling new smart grid protection solutions
Bijdrage uit Finland ABB/VTT/Aalto University/Nokia Bell Labs
Samenvatting: Within the ongoing energy revolution, power distribution grid protection, control,
and monitoring requires modern, advanced technologies to maintain safety and reliability of
operation. If all devices could be interconnected through secure, reliable, and low latency
communication infrastructure, a new dimension for design and operation of power distribution
grids would be seen. Usually communication based protection and control schemes are built with
wired communication technologies, which may be unavailable or difficult to arrange in retrofit
scenarios. This paper introduces one of the most demanding communication-based protection
principles - line differential protection including intertrip between circuit breakers, as a benchmark
application for the evolved fifth generation (5G) wireless communication and an extensive test
environment to validate its system and communication performance.
Block Protection: Paper 341
Special report: In paper 0341 from Finland describes how 5G networks enables new smart grid
protection solutions. This paper introduces one of the most demanding communication based
protection principles – line differential protection including intertrip between circuit breakers, as a
benchmark application for the evolved fifth generation (5G) wireless communication and an
extensive test environment to validate its system and communication performance. The use of 5G
technologies will drive the implementation of advanced distributed solutions reliant on the
highspeed transmission of power system quantities, such as line current and voltage values, which
are currently dependent on the existence of a physical communication infrastructure. The work
being carried out by Efacec and Altice Labs in the scope of the SliceNet project will study the
viability of using 5G networks for demanding communication-based Distribution Automation (DA)
algorithms that include Phasor Measuring Unit (PMU) based differential protection and high-speed
protection coordination.
Wanneer wordt dat 5G-netwerk
uitgerold?
Bron: Nu.nl, 3 april 2018
Bron: Nu.nl, 29 maart 2019
gemixte signalen.
Daar komt straks verandering in.
glasvezelverbinding.
Zijn we er klaar voor?
