USE TEST TO IMPROVE LEARNING
 Diagnose or evaluate learners achievement, in
effect, they can also be a learning experience.
 Opportunity to re-attach important information.
 Testing and evolution processes in which they
put a high value into their total instructional
programs for the purpose of guiding and
enhancing the student’s learning.
TYPES OF TEST
CATEGORIZATION OF TESTS
Different kinds of tests are used ,
depending upon the purposes . Tests
used in education can generally be
classified into the following three
categories.
Achievement Tests
Diagnostics Tests
Prognostic Tests
ACHIEVEMENT TESTS
 A test that measures the level of
performance achieved by an
individual after a period of
instruction or training is called an
achievement test .
The marks obtained by a student in
an achievement test conducted at
the end of a content unit , reveals
his level of proficiency in that unit .
Unit test
Monthly test
Terminal examination
Annual examination etc.,
are all the examples for
achievement tests .
DIAGNOSTICS TESTS
o A test that helps the teacher to
identify the concepts in the content
area taught, which students
struggle to learn and the nature of
the difficulties experienced by
them is called a diagnostic tests .
PROGNOSTICS TEST
 A prognostic test is one which
measures the capacity of a person for
success in some field and as such it is
predictive in character .
 In education prognostic test is nothing
but an aptitude test .
 Aptitude tests help to predict the
potential abilities and interests in a
person for a particular vocation or
course of study .
OTHER CATEGORIES OF TEST
 Ability tests :
i. These tests try to assess the general ability
of an individual .
ii. Ability tests try to assess the general
abilities expected of persons with
educational qualifications at a particular
level of education , at a given point of time .
iii. National level selection or admission tests
for candidates hailing from different
regions / universities are good examples for
an ability test.
ORAL TESTS
In this kind of tests , the teacher asks
questions and get responses from
students in the form of oral replies or
performance .
Let us see the details of these two types
of oral tests .
a. Oral response test
b. Oral performance test
c. Practical tests
