for Dummies
A short course that explains the basics of Instructional Design

 Session 6:
 Writing Objectives

                                Start
Objectives
After completing this session you will be able to:

     Write instructionally sound learning objectives

                                Start
Understanding Learning Objectives
Learning objectives are not list of topics covered under a session

A learning objective should describe what a student should be
able to do after going through a particular session
Parts of a Learning Objective

A well written learning objective should consist of
three parts, performance, condition and criterion

Performance: What the Condition: Under what Criterion: At what point the
learner will be able to do after constraints the learner performance is acceptable.
completing the session. This demonstrates the expected What are the standards of
part is known performance or behavior, acceptance? This part is
as performance or behavior known as condition known as criterion
Example
                                      Performance

“At the end of this session you will be able to describe at least 10
unique features of the Speedo Bike, without referring to the sales
                            manual.”

 Criterion Condition
Non Example
A non example will be, “At the end of this session you will understand why
  Speedo Bike is unique.”

You can clearly see that in the later example it is impossible to measure the
  effectiveness of the training
Summary
In this session we learned that:
A learning objective should describe what a student should be able to do after going
 through a particular session

A well written learning objective should consist of three
 parts, performance, condition and criterion
