- 2. In the opening scene of 7even it tells the audience a lot about the main characters just by the camera shots, angles and movements used. One of the best shots to portray the characters is the low shot, looking up at the two main characters as they’re stood together (Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt). Neither one of them is above the other which shows they're equal in terms of dominant subjects, but also denotes they’re equally important characters. As you can see from how the characters are stood, equal distance apart from one another it’s a fight over territory between the two, as they both want to be the supreme.

In the first scenes, cutting is involved to switch between scenes in a consistent manor, first of all it begins in Detective Somerset’s home, which then cuts to the crime scene, then outside in the streets, and then back to Detective Somerset’s home, this technique enhances the idea that the whole film will be fast paced to always keep the audience on edge.
- 4. In the opening of 7even, there is a soundtrack in the background as titling appears on the screen, this is used to help set the mood of the scene and specific characters. The credits match the titling in the opening scene where Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitts characters are walking down the street, which portrays to the audience that the soundtrack and the characters link together, and are prompting a storyline.
- 5. The costumes of both characters help us understand them more, and how they’re going to act. Both detectives are wearing suits and dressed formally, so both of them look like they're meant to be superior. Mills appears chewing a tooth pick, denoting he isn’t a city boy, but the younger most vulnerable out of the two. Whereas Somerset is a classic older aloof detective. The detectives are binary opposites as they both want the dominance and to be the superior male detective, however they have different views but their pathways must cross.
