Activity #5
Organize Information Using Graphic Organizer
I. Learning Skills
A.MELC (Most Essential Learning Competencies):
1. Exhibit proficiency in recognizing cause-and-effect
relationships within a narrative and effectively represent
them using appropriate graphic organizers.
2. Construct spider web diagrams to visually map complex
connections and interdependencies within a story.
3. Synthesize overlapping elements and distinctions
between characters, events, or themes in a narrative to
analyze and compare textual elements effectively.
4. Organize story elements into hierarchical structures and
identify key plot points with clarity and precision.
5. Map out the story events chronologically, while also
strengthening sequencing and summarization skills.
B. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to
do the following with at least 85% mastery level:
a. illustrate the appropriate use and purpose of
graphic organizers;
b. apply acquired knowledge to proficiently
organize information using graphic organizers;
and
c. recognize and differentiate various types of
graphic organizers.
II. Introductory Concepts
This selection encompasses various
concepts related to graphic organizers that can
be employed to organize information effectively. It
delves into the diverse applications of graphic
organizers, offering insights into their role as
powerful tools for enhancing information
organization across various contexts.
II. Introductory Concepts
Graphic organizers serve as visual learning
tools, assisting students in structuring information
and ideas to clarify and simplify complex content.
They enable students to prioritize and organize
the material they are reading. Through visual
organization, students can discern relationships
and connections within the text, ultimately
enhancing comprehension.
II. Introductory Concepts
When utilizing graphic organizers, various types
are available to help students structure information,
including:
• Cause and Effect
• Spider-Web
• Venn diagram
• T-chart
• Sequence Chart.
II. Introductory Concepts
 Cause and Effect: A graphic organizer that illustrates the
relationship between events or actions (causes) and their
outcomes or results (effects). It helps in understanding the
connections and consequences in a logical sequence.
 Spider–Web: Also known as a concept map or mind map; a
visual representation of ideas, concepts, or information
organized around a central theme. It uses interconnected
branches to show relationships between different elements.
II. Introductory Concepts
 Venn Diagram: A visual representation of the similarities and
differences between two or more sets of items. It consists of
overlapping circles, each representing a set, with the overlapping
areas indicating shared characteristics.
 T – Chart: A graphic organizer that resembles the letter "T." It is
used to compare and contrast two opposing viewpoints,
concepts, or lists. The vertical line represents the categories
being compared, and the horizontal line is used for listing the
characteristics or details associated with each category.
III. Activities
A. Practice Tasks
Activity 1: Graphic Insight
Instructions: Upon reading the provided information on
graphic organizers, select one type and provide phrases of
explanation, justifying why the chosen graphic organizer is the
most effective for presenting the information. Utilize the
spider-web organizer to articulate and arrange the concepts.

Activity 2: Organizing Information
Organize the information from the story 'The Small Key' using
various types of graphic organizers, e.g., cause and effect,
spider web, T-chart, Venn diagram, and sequence chart.
1. Spider–Web (Concept-Web Vocabulary): Based on the
story, use the spider-web graphic organizer to identify and
list vocabulary words that represent the main concept or
central idea of the story.
A Activity 5: Activity Sheet on PROF ED 9
2. Venn diagram (Character Contrasts): Using the Venn diagram,
compare and contrast the personalities of the main characters
Indo and Soledad from the story.
3. Cause and Effect (Cause-Effect Mapping): Use a cause-and-
effect graphic organizer to identify the causal relationships within
the story.
4. Chart (Problem-Solution): Using a T-chart, identify the problems
encountered in the story, placing them on the left side. On the
right side, propose solutions that could potentially resolve each
identified issue or problem within the story.
5. Sequence Chart (Story Flow Mapping): Utilizing a sequence
chart, depict the flow or sequence of events in the story. Clearly
outline the chronological order of occurrences to gain a
comprehensive understanding of the narrative structure.
III. Activities
B. Assessment
Instructions: The class will be divided into three groups. Each
group will choose an appropriate and effective graphic organizer
to use, and they will be responsible for planning the story they
want to organize. Each group will then present their output in front
of the class.
Group 1: Create your own plot for the story.
Group 2: Compare and contrast the human traits of the main
characters in the selected story.
Group 3: Identify the causes and effects in the selected story.
