This document discusses two project-based approaches used in elementary statistics courses at Kent State University. In one class, students worked in groups on mini-projects and a final semester project related to their major. In another class, four students collaborated on a single project analyzing real-world data from a local company, J.W. Harley, and reported their findings. The projects aimed to improve student engagement and understanding of statistics concepts. Assessment found students had positive attitudes toward the projects and non-traditional students performed as well as other students. The J.W. Harley project in particular helped meet needs of diverse learners and allowed curricular changes based on company needs.
