Rapist is not always mentally ill.
Times of India report
Apr 24, 2013.
Increase in rape is due to increase in the
number of people with personality disorders.
- Dr. S D Singh, Psychic artist
Personality disorder is not a mental illness
A personality disorder is different from actual
mental illness.
Some of the child sexual offenders suffer from
personality disorder.
- Psychiatrist S D Singh
Sexuality is a normal phenomenon in everyone
But for people with personality disorders, sexual fantasies
occupy a major content of their thoughts, and they make
use of the slightest opportunity to live their fantasy.
These are the same people who exhibit abnormal
sexual behaviour with their partners, and indulge
in perverted comments and behaviour in the
public.
Why children?
Aggression towards a child is a degree higher as the
victim is not mature enough to understand the
nature of the abuse.
Normal, healthy sexuality is unknown to them.
Many of them derive pleasure from abusing the victim.
Children have no strength to resist and can be
threatened to silence.
 "Many of them are addicted to alcohol and drugs,
which when used in excess, increases desire but affect
performance.
Such people would be too insecure to approach an adult
partner and would turn to children instead.
What causes disorders?
 The offenders come from a disturbed family
background.
They might have subjected to domestic violence.
 Victim of sexual abuse themselves.
Lack of good role models
At adolescence ,in our society many are not taught of a
healthy approach to sex and sexuality.
Exposure to provoking scenes and ideas during
adolescence without decision making skills for
discrimination.
Who is to be
blamed?
Our Society?
The increasing number of
Divorce or separation
The increasing number of Domestic violence
The increasing number of alcoholic
Men expect to feel more powerful, sexual and
aggressive after drinking alcohol.Studies show
that men who think they have been drinking
alcohol feel sexually aroused and are more
responsive to erotic stimuli and rape scenarios.
What can be done?
Prevention…..
Prevention……
Prevention……..
We should give equal importance to mental and
physical health as parents, as teachers, as relatives
and as a responsible citizen of India …..
Help them to grow best physically as well as
mentally without any disorder……….
