Pre-Computer
● Tell students that this component is about introducing yourself. Elicit the kinds of questions the
students would ask and expect to be asked on meeting someone for the first time (this may be done
in the students’ native language).
● Explain that the students are going to hear a conversation about registering for a course at a school.
Elicit the information students would need to provide when they register for a course (this may be
done in the students’ native language).
● Teach students the language of the Prepare screen. Teach the greeting Good morning. You may
wish to re-enter greetings at different times of the day, such as Good morning, Good afternoon, Good
evening, Hello and Hi. Teach the question Can I help you? Teach students Steve’s answer Yes, I’d
like to register for classes.
● Write name, address, age, phone number on the board. Make sure students know what they mean.
● Teach students the questions What’s your name? What’s your address? What’s your phone number?
How old are you? Teach them the answers to these questions, for example, My name is Jane Clark.
9 South Street. 583-9122. I’m 21.
● Teach the word neighbor. Show a picture of two houses side by side and tell students that the people
in the houses are neighbors. Using pictures, etc. teach student and secretary and explain new.

● Have students answer the following questions:
Who is Sarah? (She’s a secretary.)
Who is Steve? (He’s a new student.)
Who is Li Mei? (She’s also a student. She’s Steve’s neighbor.)
Post-Computer
● Check students’ answers to the computer focus questions.
● In pairs, students practice asking and answering the questions What’s your name? What’s your
address? What’s your phone number? How old are you? Write the questions on the board as a
prompt and have students role-play the conversation from the video.
● Make enough copies of the HandoUT as you have pairs of students. divide the class into pairs.
Have students match the answers to the questions. Then they role-play the conversation.

Pre-Computer
● Tell students that this component is about introducing yourself. Elicit how they would introduce
themselves on meeting someone for the first time (this may be done in the students’ native
language). You may want to discuss the customs in different countries on meeting someone for the
first time. Explain that in English speaking countries, on meeting someone for the first time or in a
business setting, it is customary to shake hands.
● Teach students the language of the Prepare screen. Teach the following sentences: Hi. I’m Tom
Smith. and the response Nice to meet you. I’m Li Mei. You may wish to re-enter formal and informal
greetings such as Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening and Good night.
● Teach the question Where are you from? and the answer I’m from China. Elicit from students the
countries they are from and write the countries on the board. Have students tell the class where they
are from I’m from… .
● Practice pronunciation of words with the sound /ai/. Say the following words and have students
repeat them after you: Hi, I’m, nice, China.

● In pairs, students introduce themselves and ask each other where they are from. They then answer
the question.

complete the sentences with information about themselves. Then have them role-play the dialogue
with their partner.

● Tell students that they are going to read an ad for a college providing English courses. Elicit the
different kinds of information that might be in an ad, depending on where it appears – notice board,
Internet (this may be done in the students' native language). Tell students that they are going to
read an ad on a notice board. Elicit the information that would appear in the ad: name, address and
telephone number of college, times of day when courses are held, name and phone number/email
of contact person for further information.
● Teach students the following words: register, today, name, address, college, classes, morning,
evening, call, information, email, contact.

● Students review the ad by answering the following questions:

● Make enough copies of the HandoUT as you have pairs of students. Students cut out the sentences
and rearrange them to make an ad. The format of their ad should follow that in the online component.
They then answer the comprehension questions about the ad. Encourage students to share their
answers with the class and invite a volunteer to write the ad on the board. as an extension activity for
stronger students, divide the class into small groups and ask them to write an ad for the college or
school where they are currently studying.

board and say them. Have students repeat the numbers. Teach the students to count from 21-29.

● Write the numbers out in words on the board: twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, twenty-four,
twenty-five, twenty-six, twenty-seven, twenty-eight, twenty-nine. draw students’ attention to the use
of the hyphen. Say numbers randomly and have students come to the board and point to them.

Students play a memory game. Have students cut out the cards and place them face down on their
desks. Each player turns over two cards at a time. Players aim to match the words to the correct
numbers. Each time a player finds a number pair he/she keeps the cards and takes a second turn.
If he/she doesn’t find a pair, the next player takes a turn. The player with the most cards wins.

70, 80, 90, 100 on the board and say them. Have students repeat the numbers. Teach the students to
count in tens from 30-100. Point to numbers on the board randomly and have students tell you which
numbers they are.
● Write the following numbers out in words on the board: thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety,
one hundred. Say numbers randomly and have students come to the board and point to them.
● Write the following numbers out in words on the board: thirty-one, thirty-two, thirty-three, thirty-four,
thirty-five, thirty-six, thirty-seven, thirty-eight, thirty-nine. Explain to students how numbers between
thirty and forty are formed (31, 41, etc.). Draw their attention to the use of the hyphen. You may want
to re-enter all the numbers from 0 to 29.

the answer It’s 75 Main Street. ask various students What’s your address? and have them give you
their own addresses. If their actual address is not between 30 and 100, tell them to choose a number

distinguish one country from another, for example, the appearance and dress of the people, the

● Show students a map of the world with the countries marked on it. Teach the countries your students
are from and write the names of the countries on the board.
● ask students if they know the names of any English speaking countries, for example, United States,
Canada, Australia, England.
● Teach students the word flag. Show students pictures of the flags of Australia, China, England,
Canada, Mexico, United States and see if students can identify any of the countries according to the
