Who would be our
target audience?
Our survey
• I asked around my school with a sample of around 20
people and asked them these questions.
• 1. Did you understand the narrative of this trailer?
• 2. How often do you watch crime/thriller films?
• 3. Out of the options below, what is the genre of the
film?
• Below are my findings and how it has helped us
identifying a target audience.
Did you understand the
narrative of this trailer?
• In our trailer, the narrative can
be fairly complex because we
portrayed certain characters
differently. For example, in our
plot the supposed femme
fatale is innocent where as the
trailer portrays her to be
seductive and mysterious.
• I was quite happy with these
results as i didn’t expect
everyone to understand the
narrative because we didn’t
want to give any plot twists
away.

How often do you watch
Crime/thriller films?
• The majority watch films on a
regular basis, with 35% of people
watching every week.
• I asked this question because the
crime/thriller genre is relative to the
noir genre. Because the noir genre
is often forgotten, my sample may
not know what the noir genre is.
• This gave us an idea, if we
promoted and marketed this film to
an audience who watch crime
films, they may enjoy our trailer
and film because it has very similar
elements.

Out of the options below,
what is the genre of the film?
• The quantitive data shows us
that our audience can
distinguish it as the noir genre.
• Because we had multiple
results, it is clear that a mass
audience may not be a good
idea to attract. This result
establishes the fact that this
film may have niche appeal
because only 35% of the
sample correctly identified it.

Who is our target audience?
• We believe that our target audience conforms to niche
market conventions. This is because the majority of our
audience couldn’t identify the right genre. We can outline
our target audience as young males because Malcolm is
a male and data from my other blog on institutions
suggested that we had a male biased audience. We also
think our audience should have knowledge of the noir
genre because we think people who are more
experienced will enjoy our piece more.
• In conclusion we believe our target audience would be
males around 15-24 years old
Mood board of our target
audience
• The next slide takes you to a mood board. We
wanted to do this to express what our audience
looks like. This mood board consists of our
potential target audience who are 15 to 24 year
old males who are experienced in watching
horror.
