Introduction
With the development of ICT , a number of alternative formats
of information have been evolved.
The Internet and the Web are constantly influencing the
development of new modes of scholarly communication. eg: e-
books, e-journals, e-thesis, etc..
So, the successful operation of any library depends to a large
extent on the choice of library collections.
All libraries have experienced a tremendous shift in content
from print to electronic.

 to provide access to e- resources
 to offer e- Library / online library services
 as an initiative for the digital library

Electronic Resources
“Material consisting of data and/or computer program(s)
encoded for reading and manipulation by a computer by the
use of a peripheral device directly connected to the
computer, (such as a CD-ROM drive,) or remotely via a network”
information could be found in machine-readable form or digital
form, which could be processed by computers and other data
processing equipment

E- resources are more popular , because…
 Easy access – any time , any where
 Speed access - possible to search information in
considerably less time
 Flexibility - allowed a greater number of access points and
possible to search for complex combinations of terms
 Range - allowed access to a wide range of information
without having to move from the terminal
 Updated - Online databases were usually updated more
frequently
