This PhD thesis explores using problem solving methods (PSMs) to support subject matter experts (SMEs) in acquiring and understanding process knowledge. It proposes four main contributions: 1) a process metamodel providing terminology for processes, 2) a reusable PSM library, 3) a graphical modeling environment enabling SMEs to formulate processes using PSMs without knowledge engineers, and 4) a method for automatically synthesizing executable process models from SME-authored diagrams supported by an underlying representation and reasoning formalism. The goal is to empower SMEs to generate computer-readable process content and apply reasoning techniques to analyze process outcomes.
