- 2. AIM The aim of this research objective is to determine how effective Brisbane’s public transport network operates and how it can be improved. OBJECTIVES Historical Background Literature Review Analysis of previous research investigations into public transport Investigate different systems to compare with Brisbane
- 3. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Public transport in Brisbane dates back to the mid 1800s Horse drawn trams, electric trams networks no longer in use Rail introduced in 1865, Buses during 1920s, Ferries since 1840
- 4. LITERATURE REVIEW – TRANSPORT PLAN A big issue that stands out from this plan is the targeted patronage of public transport. Targeted for 90 million by 2015, but only reached 75.6 million. Public Transport uses a number of different networks which differentiates from city to city. Brisbane City Council has outlined a number of goals to improve the cities public transport systems.
- 5. LITERATURE REVIEW – COMPARING TO EUROPE Comparing Brisbane’s network to overseas networks such as London can distinguish differences in effectiveness and whether systems used in other countries can be implemented.
- 6. LITERATURE REVIEW – IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIES Using different strategies including prioritising public transport can improve the effectiveness of systems. A number of techniques have been developed and can be used in Brisbane’s current network.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS The patronage data released by Brisbane City Council does not reach the goals set out by Brisbane’s Transport Plan Installing a congestion charge would produce more hurdles and uproar from residents then providing an effective solution This is due to travel time, accessibility, and fares Reducing fares and implementing incentives to reward public transport users is the best way to make the current network more effective
