Test Analysis
AILET 2014 (NLU Delhi)
All India Law Entrance Test was conducted on May
4, 2014 by National Law University-Delhi. There
were total 150 questions and time given was 90
minutes for the same. However, the students felt that
the paper was unnecessarily lengthy. The overall
paper structure was similar to that of the last year’s
paper. The level of difficulty of the questions was
moderate. The key to success in this paper is time
management and accuracy.
The test comprised of 5 sections - Logical
Reasoning, General English, Legal Aptitude,
General Knowledge and Mathematics. Each
question carried one mark and had no negative
marks for wrong answers.
A detailed analysis of each section is given below:
Logical Reasoning
This section could be rated as easy to moderate. The
most difficult section of the paper was on the
arrangement pattern. Also, the section was very
lengthy and from an examinees’ point of view, a lot
of time could have been saved here.
A score of 20-23 out of 30 can be considered as a
decent score.
Questions were from - word arrangement and series,
blood relation, calendars, coding-decoding,
syllogism, logical connectives, critical and
inferential reasoning.
General English
In this section, total of 30 questions were asked and
the level of difficulty can be ranged between easy to
moderate according to the examinees. There were
around 10 sentence correction questions, 5 questions
based on correct usage of preposition. Other
questions were from - Synonyms, Antonyms,
Idioms, Para Jumble, Cloze Test, and Reading
Comprehension. Considering the length of this
section, a score of around 25 could be easily
achievable.
Legal Aptitude
Legal Reasoning section closely mirrored the past
two years’ pattern. There was approximately a 50:
50 break-up between Legal Reasoning and Legal
Knowledge. In fact, many students from SmartPrep
found the Legal section to be quite easy. The
reasoning based questions were mainly from the law
of torts and the law of crimes. Knowledge based
question were mainly from Constitutional Law,
including Fundamental Rights, Law Commissions,
etc. A score of around 25 should be attainable.
General Knowledge
This section had more of static GK and less of
current affairs questions. The difficulty level of
questions varied from moderate to difficult. There
were bulk of questions from History, Economy and
Politics. Some questions from International
Organizations like UNO, UNESCO and EU, sports,
awards, films and literature were also a part of the
paper. Looking at the level of confidence of
examinees in this section, a fairly achievable score
could be 25 marks.
Mathematics
There were around 10 questions in this section and
the level of questions varied between moderate to
difficult. Arithmetic was a major part of this section.
2 questions were from number system. Other
questions ranged between averages, time and work,
TSD, etc. A score of around 5-7 could be attainable.
Overall Cut-off
Considering that the paper was time taking, we are
assuming that this year’s cut-off could soar
somewhere around 100-105, that means that, anyone
with a score of three figures should plan to spend
time in the moot courts.
After all, it’s a fight to make it into one of the
prestigious university with around 80 seats in total
and believe it or not, students who pursue law from
