1. Multimedia industry research.

a) Select a large, successful, online business and describe how global
market forces, changing lifestyles and the way people conduct business online
has impacted the business.

EBay is increasing in popularity due to it being one of the most used online
trading auction web sites. The site has lead to an increase in the exchange of
goods by people from all regions across the world with the only needed
equipment is a computer, an internet connection and a credit card. As more
and more people have increasing access to the internet there is a greater
amount of customers available and with this increasing market force there is a
greater demand for a range of products and services.

With greater access to the internet we have higher access to shopping, email,
people, games and so many more things. The greater access to the internet
has greatly changed our life styles and increases the global market forces. This
is shown by the graph above which shows then ever increasing internet and
computer access.
EBay has had to become more competitive as more simular sites start up which
leads to greater competitions. EBay has lead to an increase in online purchase
in general with many items being able to be accessed a fraction of the price.

With more people using the internet to make their purchases, businesses have
had to move their operations online. Businesses also have to become more
competitive with their special deals and prices.

     b) Explain how a person’s work habits and employment
     opportunities, communication, productivity and production
processes can be affected by evolving ICT. (Provide examples)

With evolving internet technologies and the increase of the use of computer in the
work place, employee’s work habits have changed dramatically. Employees are
required to know how to use a computer, email, internet and the programs
specific to the company such as accounting software. With ICT, productivity has
been increased in areas such as car manufacturing in which many parts are now
put together by a machine which increases the productivity of the company. This
however may lead to the loss of jobs.

The communication between work colleagues has altered. Memos are now sent out
by the use of email rather than paper memos. This occurs with other forms of
communications in the office. Meetings also can across the internet saving money
on flights to have a meeting.
2. Office/Business software

   a) Compare, contrast and select computer software programs suitable
for use in the HYPER-active multimedia office for business
      operations and procedures.

The Hyper-active multimedia company performs a range of activities which require
a range of software to complete the required tasks in an efficient manner.
Accounting software is required to keep track of the financial records of the
company including purchases, and profits. The software can ensure that all
records are recorded and that when it comes to tax time it will be a lot quicker to
work out things such as profits. I would recommend MYOB as they are one of the
leading companies and have a wide range of products. Database software is
required to have organised information about employees, assets (such as movie
clips and the copyright associated with them), the current project information (or
where it is kept with links) and contacts (such as clients). Microsoft word would be
required to create documents such as the Client Approval Form and request to use
copyrighted material as well as letters that are written to clients and other people.
Video and photo editing software is also required. Photoshop is recommended due
to it being an industry standard.

b) List and describe the purchasing and licensing options for each type of business
software investigated.

The best option for multimedia resources would be the Adobe CS4 suit. This would
be cheaper and easier (with the installations as nothing would be missed) then
purchasing all the programs individually. I would recommend purchasing MYOB
EXO business as it suits the hyper-active business by allowing many people to
access it at once. The filmmaker Pro 9.0 would be a suitable database as it has a
range of valuable features. For general word processing and other simular
processes I will use MS word which is generally included in with the operating
system and many people know how to use this as compared with Mac.

NB: I have not completed question 2 part b as well as I would have liked as I am
not sure what is meant by the question.
3. Hiring staff

You want your business, HYPER-active multimedia, to produce professional
multimedia products for a wide range of clients. How do you know if
someone you’re about to hire is suitably skilled?

  a) List and describe the appropriate industry qualifications that employees
of HYPER-active would need to work in the following five job roles:

      • Project Manager
The required qualifications would be a bachelor’s degree in management
information technology. They required to be able to manage a project and a team.

      • Graphics Designer
Graphics design has two universes offering courses. Curtin University; Bachelor of
Arts (Design) majoring in graphic design and ECU; Bachelor of Creative Industries
(Graphic Design). TAFE offers a range of courses relating to the career of graphics
design including a Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design) and a Diploma of
Graphic Design.

     • Web Designer
Courses are offered at TAFE and University. The university qualification is a
bachelor’s degree in information systems. The TAFE course required is Information
Technology (websites) (design) Certificate IV. The TAFE course is more practical
and would give greater experience than the university qualification.

      • Multimedia Developer
A TAFE qualification in Information technology (multimedia), preferably a diploma
or a Bachelor of Arts – Multimedia design which is provided by Curtin University.

      • Audio/video Producer
The TAFE course that would be required is Screen and media (film and television)
in a Certificate IV. In Western Australia the course is only available at TAFE.

Include information about the following industry recognised general
ICT qualifications:

Explain how employees with these industry qualifications could be
valuable to HYPER-active given that many of the businesses clients will
require networked and web-based solutions.

     • Microsoft Certified Professional(MCP)
MCP gives the ability to build, debug and troubleshoot Microsoft products. The
course helps in the careers of project management and systems development.
This would be useful to the Hyper-active as it can provide greater services to the
clients and allow the creation of web based products that can be used across a
large network.

       • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
The CCNA allows users to be able to configure, operate and troubleshoot median
sized networks (either switch or route networks) include the implementation and
verifications of connections to remote sites in a WAN. This will improve the
business activities in that it allows the creation of products which can be installed
and used across a WAN.

       • Certified Novell Engineer (CNE)
The CNE gives the user network support skills as well as skills in planning,
installation, configuration and upgrading of the network. This will help Hyper-
active in the development and installation of client’s products that use a network.

   b) Describe how people with these qualifications could update their skills and
identify what personal attributes and abilities they should possess.
      (Maximum 200 words)

When people get these qualifications they will have an increased range of skills
which can improve their quality of work as well as their productivity.

The main requirements an employer would need are to be able to
        • Work well in a team
        • Be honest
        • Hardworking and productive to the best of their ability
        • Be highly skilled in their area of work
        • Be able to get on with people
        • Experienced
        • Have common sense
        • Be committed, loyal and reliable
        • Have a balanced work and home life style
        • Enthusiast in their work

These qualities would be highly important in their work as it would ensure that
they can work well with others ensuring that the work they complete is done to a
high standard for Hyper active.

People who already have the required qualifications can increase their range of
skills by taking new courses to gain extra qualifications and certificates. This can
improve their quality of work and their understanding of how the systems and
other areas of the company work.
