The culture of India is the way of living of the people of India . India's languages,
religions,

country.
India is the birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, collectively
known as
Indian religions.
India has one of the richest and most exciting cultural traditional in the world

THE NATIONAL FLAG
The flag's saffron color symbolizes courage and sacrifice
white stands for peace and truth,
and green is for faith and chivalry,
blue represents the color of the sky and the ocean.
The 24 spokes of the wheel (Ashoka Chakra), correspond with the 24 hours of
the day, implying that there is life in movement and death in stagnation.

FESTIVALS IN INDIA
India, being a multi-cultural and multi-religious society, celebrates holidays and festivals of
various religions.
With India's cultural diversity, the
country has more festivals than
there are days in a year
Popular religious festivals include the Hindu festivals of Navratri,
Diwali , Maha Shivratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga puja, Holi, Ratha-Yatra , Ugadi , Rakshabandhan , and
Dussehra . Several harvest festivals such as Sankranthi, Pongal and Raja sankaranti swinging
festival "Nuakhai " are also fairly popular.

For centuries, arranged marriages have been the tradition in Indian society.
In India, the divorce rate is low — 1% compared with about 40% in the United

distinctive traditional dances as indian classical dances.
folk dances are numerous in number and styles and vary according to the local
tradition of the respective state,ethnic or geographic regions.

presence in popular culture ofd the indian subcontinent.

CLASSICAL DANCE
Classical dance in india has developed a type of dance drama that is a form of a total
theatre.
Most of the classical dances enact stories from hindu mythology.
The tradition of dance has been condified in the natyashastra.
A performance is considered accomplished if it manages to evokje a rasa(emotions)among
the audience by invoking a particular bhava(gesture or facial expression)

DANCES IN FILMS
The introduction of sound to cinema in the film Alam Ara in 1931, choreographed dance
sequences became ubiquitous in Hindi and other Indian films.
Dance in early Hindi films was primarily modelled on classical Indian dance styles and
particularly those of historic North Indian courtesans (tawaif ), or folk dancers.

MUSIC IN INDIA
The music of India includes multiple varieties of folk music , pop , and Indian classical music.
The two main traditions of Indian classical music are Carnatic music, which is found
predominantly in the peninsular regions, and Hindustani music, which is found in the
northern,eastern and central regions.
Rabindranath Tagore was a towering figure in Indian music. Writing in Bengali, he created a
library of over 2,000 songs.
The biggest form of Indian popular music is filmi , or songs from Indian films, it makes up 72%
of the music sales in India.

GREETINGS IN INDIA
The way of greeting “ Khuda hafis” is more Urdu and is
commonly used by Muslims in India. “ Jay Sreekrishna” is
a typical Gujarathi greeting, where sreekrishna is a Hindu
God. There could be regional and cultural variations in
the way of greeting, but I repeat , “ Namasthae “ is always
safe. Reply to Namasthae is also Namsthae. You can
prefix “Namsthae” with the person’s name, if you wish.

The uniqueness of Indian culture lies in its strong social system and family
values .
The elders are considered the driving force and so are respected and loved .
The guests are considered as gods and are treated with respect and love, even
if by foregoing some of the personal pleasures.
