- 2. INTRODUCTION • For more than 20 years, Steven Darien has led New Jersey's Cabot Advisory Group LLC in consulting and human resources work. Before taking on this role, Steven Darien attended Rutgers University, graduating with a degree in economics in 1963 and participating in the school's chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi, a fraternity that seeks to develop strong leaders in the Jewish community at its hundreds of chapters. One way in which Alpha Epsilon Pi cultivates leadership in its members is through philanthropy, and it considers the idea of repairing the world to be essential to a healthy moral and spiritual life. The fraternity's Official Philanthropy Program (OPP) supports Jewish causes through the Repair the World Fund.
- 3. ALPHA EPSILON PI • As of 2014, this fund set a $1-million commitment over five years to 10 Jewish organizations. Prior pledges have moved swiftly, meeting their goals in just over half the slated time. Current beneficiaries of the OPP include Heroes to Heroes, Israel Children's Cancer Foundation, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Organizations which the OPP has supported in the past include the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Leket Israel, Save a Child's Heart, and Hillel International. It has also raised money for disaster relief efforts, including those for 2005's Hurricane Katrina.
