“Alphabet of success”
Scenario
Suggested time: 1.5 hour
Objective: knowing the group, knowing the individual and collective (group) priorities, developing teamwork skills
Participants: any age
Materials: annex with the activity titled "Alphabet of success" for the group, (big) sheet of white or gray paper for a group, colour felt tips
Optimum group size: 15-20 participants
Remarks regarding class tutoring: one should pay attention to group’s dynamics, relationships within the group, vocabulary/ language used by the participants, one should react to comments causing, for example, discomfort of any of the participants. You should always work on positive sides/ strengths. Tutor is required to be very attentive and watchful towards the group.
Course of the classes
The participants are to complete the activity “Alphabet of success” individually. The tutor sets up the duration of the activity - it should be enough time for everyone to peacefully reflect on personality traits, attitudes, values, which according to them contribute to the success, yet it should not take too long. Suggested time: 20-30 minutes, depending on the group.
After having completed the individual activity, the tutor asks the participants to provide, in alphabetical order, words they had written down. All words are written down by the corresponding letter, and if the repeat, one records the number of repetitions.
It is up to the tutor how to continue with the activity - whether to only write down the concepts in order to eventually see how many factors we make our success dependent on, or to explain in details the concepts not known to everyone (such as assertiveness, empathy) and allow for free discussion.
It is of key significance to ensure that in the summary one elaborates on the different ways of understanding the concept of “success”. As for the group, one can also establish the concepts of key significance from the group’s point of view (such as the deadline for the group’s implementing a particular task, project, etc.); show that it is not always easy to reach the agreement on a given issue.

Alphabet of success

If you are doing this activity in a group, you can develop a scale of the most frequent features, you can also see what appeared least often.
While in a group, does the fact that you set up the success criteria important to you individually affect how it is easier to achieve success in a group?
