           Advanced Mobility Academic
                Research Center

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 1
AMARC Mission
• Increase the efficiency and optimize the delivery of
government services in the US at all levels through the
  utilization of mobile communications technology
• Implement such efficiency and optimization through
the greater integration of academic research
capabilities with government organizations and their
  corporate partners
• Emphasize STEM (science, technology, engineering and
  mathematics) investments training at academic
institutions and the exposure of students interested in
STEM to government and academic careers

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 2
Our Focus Is On Academic Assets
• Create a non-profit that pulls together each
leg of a three legged stool
      – Academic, Government, Corporate
• Academic is the pivot
• Including leading Government and Corporate
  participants is also key

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 3
Two Ways of Looking at Mobility
• Distributed government services provisioning
  (stakeholders are mobile)
• Distributed application development (apps
  and data are mobile)

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 4
Possible Areas of Research
• Security
• Identity management
• Software development
• Systems architecture
• Distance learning

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 5
Possible Questions to Answer
• How can an agency prove a near-term return on investment in
embracing BYOD for smartphones, tablets, and laptops?
• What are the minimal set of applications and services – offered
inter-agency – that a BYOD subscriber can expect?
• How are data plan expenditures treated in a BYOD
  environment? Can this be standardized?
• How will mobile apps be deployed in a BYOD environment? Who
will define the requirements for an inter-agency app store?
• What are the key security statutes (FIPS / NIST / etc.) that will
govern web API access and system resource access from mobile
  apps?
• How will agencies without mature mobile-specialized development
teams answer the call on the Digital Government Strategy?

3-Mar-13 AMARC Draft 6
