1) Google's Android OS update will accelerate deployment of Advanced Mobile Location (AML) in the UK by allowing each mobile network and handset provider to utilize Google's AML functionality rather than maintaining their own. 2) Testing of Google's "Thunderbird" AML system at UK emergency call centers showed it could provide caller locations within 20 seconds for 100s of test calls across various locations using SMS. 3) A gradual rollout of Thunderbird was started in June 2016 across UK mobile networks, initially enabling location for a small percentage of calls. Initial results showed most locations were accurate to within 50 meters.
