An analysis of China's exam-oriented education system is presented. The system focuses heavily on test scores as the sole measure of students' abilities. This leads students to prioritize extrinsic goals over learning. A notable example is "Master Examinee" Konggu Zhang, who was admitted to top universities but lacked life skills. While the system produces hard-working students, it lacks creativity and students suffer from stress. Teachers and employers criticize the system for producing graduates without independence or problem-solving skills. Comprehensive reforms are needed, including long-term assessment and considering students' overall abilities rather than a single exam.
