DIGIPACK:As I preferred the image on left inside of my digipack much more and believed it would
look better on the front cover I decided to use this as my front cover image. I took the
original image which was on the left inside and started a new document for the front
cover of my digipack, copy and pasting the left inside onto the new document which
was the measurements of my front cover.
I was then lost for inspiration of what to do next so I searched the internet for existing
digipacks in order to gained inspiration. I found a bastille album cover “Bad Blood” and
found that I like the way in which the band title and album title is presented with the
speech marks around the album title, also I took inspiration from the way the band
title has changed the A in the title to a triangle to add an indie kind of effect, making it
different to other album covers. The way that this album front cover also says ‘bad
steel presents’ is an effective way in positioning the label which the artist is signed to
on the front cover.
Original left inside Bad Blood Album Cover
One thing I did not like the look of on this album cover
however was the publication details on the bottom of
the album cover as this is information which I would
not want to bombard my target audience with and I
am likely to include this on the back cover of my
digipack.
DIGIPACK FRONT COVER:
Firstly the way that the ‘BAD STEEL PRESENTS’ is
shown I believe works well with the band name and
title. I would change this to the name of the record
label I believe my artist would be signed to
‘COLUMBIA RECORDS PRESENTS’. I would also
passible move this into the top left hand side of
album cover making it easier for audience to see this
piece of text, as in the middle it would not be seen
due to the colour of my artists hair.
The use of the triangle presented as an A in the title
gives an Aztec look to the cover, Aztec is generally
seen to be rather individual and used by the African
cultures, I believe that this relates to the soul side of
my chosen genre as culture is seen to be very soulful.
As the image on the front cover is a medium close up
rather than a long shot I chose to add more of these
effects to my text making it look more Aztec-ish I will
add more quirky shapes to the text giving it a larger
soulful image.
Lastly the speech marks around the album title gives a
well laid out effect in my opinion as it gives the idea
that people (audiences) are talking about this album.
The title of my album is clearly shorter therefor I will
DIGIPACK FRONT COVER INSIRATION:
-Bastille album cover
-My album cover
This is the album cover I made, taking inspiration from the Bad Blood album cover, in
comparison to the Bad Blood album cover focussing on the record label text. As you can see
this text on my album cover is spread out much more making it easier for my audience to
read this piece of text on the dark background.
The Process of This:
DIGIPACK FRONT COVER INSIRATION:
-Bastille album cover
-My album cover
This is the album cover I made, taking inspiration from the Bad Blood album cover in
comparison to the Bad Blood album cover – focusing on the artist title. As you can see not
only did I use the idea of turning an A into a triangle but I also filled in the holes which would
have been in the ‘O’ and the ‘B’. I think this adds a dynamic individual affect to my album
cover.
The Process of This:
DIGIPACK FRONT COVER INSIRATION:
-Bastille album cover
-My album cover
This is the album cover I made, taking inspiration from the Bad Blood album cover in
comparison to the Bad Blood album cover – focussing on the album title. The text on my
album cover is much larger than that on the Bastille album cover, this is due to the fact that I
believe on my album cover this looks more effective as each side of the image is a different
colour to fit with the theme of binary opposites.
The Process of This:
For this I simply wrote “CLOWN” in a text box on photoshop and then transformed the scale
of the image in order for it to fit the space in which I anticipated it to.
DIGIPACK – FRONT COVER:
DIGIPACK SPINE:
It is clear to see that the spine on my current digipack looks greatly unprofessional,
which is why I chose to redo this part of my digipack completely. As I have already
stated on a previous blog post I need to do more research into this part of my album
cover – so I did.
-DRAFT ONE SPINE
These are two album covers which I have taken inspiration from in the process of making the spine
to my album cover. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kenny Chesney. The colour shceme on these two is
different to my colour scheme ‘black, red, white and pink/red’ Which is why the inspiration I took
from these spines has had the colour scheme changed.
One thing I found was that the record label that the artist is signed to is featured on the spine. I
really liked the way that the first spine has incorporated this piece of text, with a small thin line
separating this text from other pieces of texts.
Also I found that a small code was featured on the spine – I could not find what this code actually
stood for however upon my research of other album cover spines this was a common convention so
I knew it was important to include on my album cover spine. I though that it would be a good idea
to include this code underneath my record label text in order to keep the added information in one
small space. Also in this space I wanted to include an image of the major label Sony Music
Entertainment as Columbia Records which is the label I have put my artist under is a subsidiary of
SME.
As I had already changed the way the name of my artist looks one the front cover of my album I have chosen to carry on this
idea and also carried on the way in which the album title is in speech marks – giving my digipack continuity. I like the way in
which the Kenny Chesney spine has a box of block colour and the album and artist title in larger writing. I used this for
inspiration also as I believed I could incorporate my colour scheme into this piece of work.
DIGIPACK – SPINE:
DIGIPACK BACK COVER CHANGES:
The back cover of the digipak is the product which I used most photo manipulation
tools on the models face. As this is a close up and there is no overall effect on this
image. I used the brush tool and then changed the opacity of the things which I had
drawn on a new layer in order to give an airbrushed effect to my artists face.
