ANIMATION NCII
2D and 3D Animation Topic
Present by:

What is Animation?
Animation is a type of optical illusion; it is the process
by which we see still pictures move. It involves the
appearance of motion caused by displaying still
images one after another at the rate of 24
pictures/frames per second. The most common
method of presenting animation is as a motion picture
or video program, although several other forms of
presenting animation also exist.
1.) Animation desk with animation disc , or a
light box with pegbar. (get the disc if you can , it's
better.)
2.) Extra ACME peg bar for scanning or video testing your
drawings. Get a thin, metal tape-down peg bar if possible
because those are the most versatile. Lightfoot
Animation or Cartoon Colour Co. has them .
3. Animation Paper is a specialized software application in
development. Designed for the experienced and
professional animator. Work rough, quickly test ideas,
then clean it up.
5.) Erasers: Soft kneaded eraser (grey) ,
and "Magic Eraser" (white) .
6.) Exposure is a traditional animation tool that allows an animator to
organize their thinking and give instructions to the cameraman on how
the animation is to be shot.
7.) Animation frame capture software. Two are particularly
recommended : TVP Animation or Digicel Flipbook
Studio. Also good for pencil testing are: Toki Line Test,
MonkeyJam (freeware , but for Windows PC only) .
8.) a scanner for scanning your animation drawings into
TVP Animation or Digicel Flipbook
8 a .) a digital video camera mounted on a down-
shooter (tripod or ideally a copy stand) to capture
your drawings via video feed.

Q:-What is the difference in
animation 2d and 3d?
2D animation is a flat animation and all the actions happen in
the x-y axes,
3D animation includes an extra dimension and that is the z
axis.
2D is flat which means that if a picture is turned to the side then
it becomes a line.

Animation2 ncii
3D includes an extra dimension known as z coordinate which
stands for rotation and depth.

2D vs 3D
What is a storyboard?
A storyboard shows not only the individual shots (in
the case of a video) or screens (for computer-based
multimedia), but the sequence as well. Storyboards
come in many shapes and sizes, depending on the
project requirements, the director, and the storyboard
artist.
Animation2 ncii
Animation departments
are departments that use for making animation and step-by
step making by a group or incorporation.
Animation comes from the word Animatio while
Department comes from the word Departement from a
French word Departir.
Animator
An animator produces multiple images called frames, which
when sequenced together create an illusion of movement
known as animation. The images can be made up of digital or
hand-drawn pictures, models or puppets. Tend to work in 2D
animation, 3D model-making animation, stop frame or
computer-generated animation.
Inbetweener
Inbetweener- produce the drawings
between previously completed key
poses, in order to complete the illusion of
movement and action.

How and When Do You Clean Up Animatio
In traditional hand-drawn animation, the "clean-up"
phase (usually done by someone called a clean-up
artist), is when the rough keys, breakdowns, and in-
betweens are "cleaned up" into nice, smooth solid lines
and forms. In a sense, the clean-up artist is tracing the
animator's
often rough drawings, but it's more than just tracing.

Layout Artist (2D drawn animation)
•Drawing the background and character elements within a
shot for the Animators to animate
Layout Artists
produce background layouts only and Lead Animators will
do the character layouts or key poses.
Layout Artist (3D computer animation)
Layout Artists
They use production designs and models as reference to build
locations and major props, to block in the position of characters, to
select camera angles and to plot camera moves. They are
responsible for staging every shot and plotting the action that will take
place within each scene.
It is likely that the Director and Editor will view and make comments
on a low resolution first pass of a layout reel so Layout Artists can
make any changes before the scene is passed on to the animators.
