The study involved 73 children ages 6-7 who were known to be aggressive. The children were exposed to stressful tasks or watching TV as a control. Saliva samples measured cortisol levels. Results showed low cortisol levels were associated with more aggression. Proactively aggressive children had a lower relationship with the HPA axis than reactively aggressive children, suggesting their aggression was impulsive rather than premeditated. The study helps understand children's aggressive responses to stress and can aid in treating overly aggressive children.
