Spring Seminar 3 Reflection
Schizophrenia is a mental disease that is widely studied by psychiatrists and
neurobiologists. This disease can cause symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and
cognitive defects among other effects. José Peña’s research involves locating specific genes that
can be associated with this disease aqnd studying its effects on the brain and the nerves. This
study will eventually lead to a better treatment for schizophrenia, and possibly, a way to inhibit
the disease from ever taking effect.
