This article discusses strategies to improve self-efficacy and retention of alternatively certified novice teachers through strategic eMentoring. It finds that novice teachers with higher self-efficacy are more effective instructors and less likely to leave the profession early. The article recommends pairing novice teachers with veteran mentors through online communication to provide guidance, share teaching strategies, and foster trusting relationships. Implementing a strategic eMentoring program could help increase self-efficacy and lower the high attrition rates that inner city school districts often see within the first five years of teaching.
