Would ever say “No.. Please put your super computer away, Ive got some nicely prepared overhead slides that I want you to copy down please”.Why don’t we allow and show students HOW to use their pocket super computers today…. To help with their learning and our teaching?

• #15: Khan Academy – If you havent heard about it or explored it… Do!!! Amazing resource for mathematics and some sciences. Explore the ‘Self Study’ options as a way of suggesting to students how they could help their own learning and how you might supplement your own teaching. Good for some sciences as well.
• #20: Google Translate on Android can do mobile plagiarism detection. A demonstration here showed that it can pick out the ‘two’ sentences here that have been copied from a fiction book.

• #38: You will need the Chrome Browser to view this. Very worthwhile using for anatomy classes and suggesting to students as a resource for themselves. FREE.

• #42: Evidence capture – Using a picture annotation tool on a mobile phone. Suggest to students they could use their phone to more quickly and usefully, capture evidence of field trip, classroom and workshop activities… where appropriate. (eg: PicSay on Android or Skitch for iPhone)
• #44: Use QR Codes with Re-Direct sites to make very useful – re-useable QR Codes in posters, publications etc. Come along to a Smart Marketing event to learn a lot more if you are interested in digital marketing solutions.

• #56: QR codes as used in some colleges already and for marketing on sweets. They are used a lot for commercial marketing.
• #58: By combining the use of QR codes and NFC tages with re-direct sites such as p-qr, you can create high quality re-useable resources and move away from printing 30, 50 or 100 hanouts each time. In this presentation, I use an eHandout created in Google Docs. Everything is updatable and re-useable, .. It saves me time !!
• #61: New technologies.. The latest phones now have NFC chips built into them. Use this technology to make access to resources and information much faster for students. Using NFC Stickers, tags etc you can enrich everyday objects in a workshop or laboratory. Place a link to a ‘How to Use this…’ video on objects in the lab or workshop ! Some colleges already use QR codes for exactly this purpose.

• #70: Some tutors use FaceBook to engage with their students. Their students really like this aspect of their course. By using a ‘FaceBook Page’ a tutor can keep their own account separate from the students but yet, use the FaceBook page as a portal for communicating course information, notes easily to students mobile devices. Engage students with the tools they use in a way they would like !
• #73: Don’t like FaceBook for your organisation? Well.. A lot of your students will, and they will happily create sites for your organisation so you don’t have to worry about marketing, content and being worried about your public image, ex-students can do that for you !!!! ???? Create and Look after your own Social Networking image on Facebook, twitter, youtube etc….
• #75: Use Audio Feedback… BIG time saver, lots of advantages ONCE you have had the time to invest with using it. But worth investing that effort in.
• #77: eBooks can be used for enhancing students learning. Look at WattPad !
• #79: ‘Mobile Devices for Your Learning’ Induction lessons for students might cover these sorts of topics. Develop your own and proactively change the way students view their mobile phones and their behaviour of mobile phones in the classroom.
• #81: Umm,., use Twitter! Very very useful tool, in so many ways, we run whole day courses on how to use it for CPD, Teaching, Learning, Marketing etc….
• #84: Marketing example.. In 24 hours a Tweet went to over 32,000 separate Twitter accounts world wide.
• #85: Twitter – Used by researchers to communicate and collaborate.
• #90: Everyone has enthusiastic staff and departments. Most organisations have useful strategies and policies and plans.. VERY FEW have an embedded culture of really accommodating technology throughout allllll aspects of the education delivery service they provide to students. From the Building, Posters, Publications, Lesson planning, Resources, Inductions, Furniture, Mobile support services, and the mind sets and behaviour of the staff and students. Do more than have a policy…. Actually do it.. Through and through. If majority of students walk into your building with a computer bigger than the fastest super computer from yesteryear… Would you be motivated to find ways of really using that potential to help with their learning and improving your achievement rates? Because, in the next year or so, as near to it, Every Student will be using a smartphone. Don’t’ tell them to turn it off… Just find better ways of allowing them to turn it on.
