Comparing Frankenstein And Adam
Compare and Contrast Frankenstein and Adam There are differences and similarities in the
creation story of Adam and Victor s creature. Victor Frankenstein and God created beings and put
them in the world. Adam and the creature Victor Frankenstein created resembles each other
because, they were alone, unique, and beings created. The creation of Frankenstein s monster
parallels the creation of Adam in many ways. First of all, both Adam and the monster were created
because of love. Godloved the world and He thought that he needs to create a human being who
was to take care of the beautiful earth. The bible says that, God loved humanity and that is why he
created man (Adam) in His image and put him in the Garden of Edenwhich had everything he
needed (Gen. 2:7 9). Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden and warned not to eat from Tree of

after Victor created the monster, he left it wandering all alone in the world without any

The Worlds Of The Last Man Essay
In the worlds of The Last Man by Marry Shelly and A Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood, the
lives of the survivors of the apocalypse are thrown into chaos. In The Last Man, the people of
England are driven out of their native home by the plague and forced into the desolate wasteland
that is Europe. In A Handmaid s Tale, Gilead society has torn Offred away from her past life and
severed all her connections to it. In these troubled times, characters turn to religion either by
force or their own free will. In apocalyptic scenarios in literature, the fragmentation of memories
make the victims of the event susceptible to the controlling influence of religion. Over the course
of the novel, Offred continuously reminds the reader of stories of what she was taught by the
Aunts at the Red Center. Offred recalls her old life I think about laundromats. What I wore to
them: shorts, jeans, jogging pants. What I put into them: my own clothes, my own soap, my
own money, money I had earned myself. I think about having such control. Now we walk along
the same street, in red pairs, and no man shouts obscenities at us, speaks to us, touches us. No
one whistles. There is more than one kind of freedom, said Aunt Lydia. Freedom to and freedom
from. In the days of anarchy, it was freedom to. Now you are being given freedom from. Don t
underrate it (Atwood 24). Here, Offred remembers the objects of her previous life. However, these
reminders of the past are not presented in a positive light.

The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay
The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History
In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way
in which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality
of particular characters.
Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the
play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O Neill
because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis.
Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the
other characters almost like a buffer. His calm nature in times of distress or excitement ... Show

This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the
play would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the
flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds
diversity to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this
calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O
Donnell. When compared to characters like O Donnell
Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon.
Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O Neill to show a weakness in
O Neill s character. O Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly
O Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O Neill takes Harry for granted showing
another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O
Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and
sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important
side to O Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose

Sunspots Essay
Sunspots Our Sun continuously converts hydrogen into helium and with this process it provides
the essentials for life processes. In doing this it controls our climate, provides light, raises tides,
and drives the food chain (Schaefer 34). Our Sun also has influenced many beliefs now and in the
past. History has documented Sunworshipping religions while many current societies use solar
calendars (Schaefer 34).
Because the Sun is so influential, imperfections of the Sun, such as sunspots will continue to
impact life on Earth. The discovery of sunspots is correlated with the invention of the telescope in
1608, although there are earlier recordings of sunspot like activity from China (Schaefer 35).

In each sunspot pair in the northern hemisphere the first spot has a north magnetic polarity and the
second has a south magnetic polarity while in the southern hemisphere it is the opposite pattern. In
sunspot groups the polarity of the sunspots gets increasingly complex (Nicolson 124). The
sunspots follow a cycle of eleven years. The number of sunspots varies monthly from zero to the
hundreds. During the eleven year cycle there are periods called solar maximum and solar minimum
where the number of sunspots reaches its peak or low. At the time of solar max the Sun s magnetic
poles reverse. The north magnetic pole switches to extend through the southern hemisphere and the
south magnetic pole extends through the northern hemisphere. In fact the Sun reached its solar max
in February of this year
(Philips 1).
According to astrophysicist, K. V. K. Nehru the magnetic poles reverse because of a theory of high
range temperature matter. His theory states that one way high temperature matter acts in is
thredules, which is [m]atter in the ultra high temperature range manifests as slender, unidirectional,

General Contribution Of The Core Knowledge From Overall...
Question 1 This question relates to the general contribution of the core knowledge from this unit to
overall managerial effectiveness.
a) Outline how the core concepts in this unit relate to the overall effectiveness of managers, leaders
and their organisations. (10 marks 300 words)
The core concepts of the unit will enable executive staff to make better informed business decisions.
Using concepts learned from the unit, theory as learned, can be applied to business situations and
enables them to review situations in a nonlinear view. As quoted in the study guide To answer such
questions using an economics looking glass we first have to define what economics is. Economics
is a way of thinking. (Walker Murphy 2013).
Traditionally, workers in siloed organisations, may concentrate and look at problems within the
business relevant to their specific requirements, however, from an economic decision making
point of view we can make a more informed decision. eg. An IT Executive may look at technology
to solve a specific business problem, however an executive may apply economic concepts to
provide an overall picture on the solution this may include but would not be limited to;
Supply Demand Theory eg. The executive might need to budget and resource for labour. We might
need to consider the relation between the two (that is supply and demand) and provide some
mechanisms to forecast demand (such as regression).
Production Theory the executive might need to

False Memory In The Film Total Recall
Is it possible to implant a memory into someone s mind? When it comes to memory being
implanted to an individual mind I think that is the term false memories comes in. False memory is
the variation between memory and imagination which becomes obscured, and events that never
actually happened but become sewn into an individual memoryas real events. This individual then
believe that the memory is real and most can even describe these false memories vividly as if
they really experience them. For example in the movie Total Recall , Arnold Schwarzenegger
plays an inattentive construction worker in the year 2084 name Douglas. Douglas visits a
company named Recall, which plants false memories into people s brains, in order for individual s
to experience the thrill of Mars without having to travel there. In the movie Arnold believes that the
memories of mars is real but later discover that his entire life is actually a false memory and that
everything was that he thought was real was just implanted into his mind .... Show more content on

Human memory is highly subjective to misconception due to the high quantity of outside
influences that affect what remember and how we remember it. There has been a time where it
has been shown that outside influences from our family such as family resentment or other
occurrences might be the cause of false memories being implanted into what we actually believe.
False memories can be implanted in individual s minds that do not consider themselves powerless
or weak and uncritical. This shows how weak a person mind can be impacted by someone feeding
them false information or even just asking them a question about their past. For example, most
psychiatrists are able to bring up false memories inside adults who thought that they had maybe

Describe the types of dementia and common signs and symptoms
Unit 40 P1 Describe the types of dementia and common signs and symptoms The term dementia
describes a set of symptoms which can include loss of memory, mood changes and problems with
communication and reasoning. These symptoms occur when the brain is damaged by certain
conditions and diseases, including Alzheimer s disease, vascular dementia and Creutzfeldt Jakob
disease.
Age is the greatest risk factor for dementia. Dementia affects one in 14 people over
the age of 65 and one in six over the age of 80. However, dementia is not restricted to older
people: in the UK, there are over 17,000 people under the age of 65 with dementia, although this
figure is likely to be an underestimate. Alzheimer s Disease Alzheimer s disease... Show more

The difference between these types depends on what has caused the damage in the brain and which
part of the brain has been damaged.
Common signs and symptoms of vascular dementia may
include: Problems with speed of thinking, concentration and communication. Depression and
anxiety accompanying the dementia. Symptoms of a stroke, such as physical weakness or
paralysis. Seizures. Periods of severe confusion. Visual mistakes and misperceptions (for example,
seeing a rug as a pond). Changes in behaviour (for example, restlessness). Difficulties with
walking and unsteadiness. Hallucinations and delusions. Problems with continence. Psychological
symptoms such as becoming more obsessive. Dementia with Lewy Bodies Dementia with Lewy
bodies (DLB) is a form of dementia which shares characteristics with both Alzheimer s and
Parkinson s disease. It accounts for around 10% of all cases of dementia in older people and tends
to be under diagnosed.
Named after the doctor who first identified them in 1912, Lewy bodies
are tiny, spherical protein deposits found in nerve cells. Their presence in the brain disrupts the
brain s normal functioning, interrupting the action of important chemical messengers. Lewy bodies
are also found in the brains of people with Parkinson s disease, a progressive neurological disease
that affects movement.

Too Much Power In Tommy Douglas And George Orwell s Animal...
Have you ever thought about power and what it does when there is too much of it? In the book
Animal Farm and the short story Mousland, one group has too much power and it influences the
rules; which shows the theme that if there is too much power in one group there is no equality
within the rules. The authors of Animal Farm and Mousland use the narrative techniques of
characterization and conflict to illustrate political messages, about power influencing, how the rules
affect equality.
The authors Tommy Douglas and George Orwell use characterization to show the political message
that too much power affects the rules that affect equality. In the book Animal Farm the animals
have taken over the farm from the humans and started producing their own goods. In the book
Animal Farm, page 35 it says, The animals had assumed as a matter of course that these would be
shared out equally; one day, however, the order went forth that all the windfalls were to be
collected and brought to the harness room for the use of the pigs... You do not imagine, I hope,
that we pigs are doing this in spirit of selfless and privilege? ... Our sole object in taking these
things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by science, comrades)
contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig. We pigs are the brainworkers.

The Flashover Chamber
About two weeks ago, I went on one of the best field trips I ve ever been on. I went to Auburn

and experiences that some people will never experience, but this by far has been the best one so

Eating Disorder Research Essay example
To what extent do biological approaches successfully explain eating disorders?
There are many different biological approaches that explain the reasons for eating disorders they all
have some validity behind them to a certain extent. An eating disorder is a psychological
dysfunction that causes a person to change their eating habits to eating less, or more etc.
Firstly a biological approach was studied by Holland (1988) on genetic concordance between
identical twins and non identical twins. Holland was trying to discover the connection between
anorexia and genetics through twins. Holland s study consisted of taking pairs of Monozygotic
(identical) and Dizygotic (non identical) with one of the twins suffering from anorexia; ... Show

Also the study was only done with twins and therefore the same results may not be found between
parent and child etc, but the study does show that genetics can play a part in developing anorexia.
For using concordance rates these studies can be criticised, since concordance rates alone cannot
be to blame for twins developing an eating disorder, the causes can also be observational
experiences/ learning such as constantly being surrounded by thin people and you are overweight.
Fava did another study done on eating disorder on seretonin. Fava discovered a link between the
levels of seretonin and anorexia. This showed that biologically the levels of seretonin in a
person could cause them to develop anorexia. However Fava did not show whether this change
in the levels of seretonin he discovered was a cause for the participants developing anorexia or
whether it is a result of anorexia. Since people who suffer from anorexia are often depressed it is
difficult to show whether it is a result or cause.
Garfinkel and Garner did another study on biological causes for anorexia. They discovered that
anorexia sufferers had a disturbed hypothalamus. This could mean that there is a link between the
hypothalamus and eating disorders. However not everyone with anorexia have a hypothalamus
dysfunction.

declining from international trade due to the appreciation of Canadian dollars. Hence, the company

According to CS s case, the firm s strategy includes three aspects to be completive with peer firms.
The first is innovation which is to attain substantial resource base through applying edged
technologies. The second is control totally on the value chain for the sake of cost efficiency and
goods quality assurance. The third concerned with diversity, this is to creating hedges among
products classes and market regions. This strategy sounds quite all round but there is an issue that
it needs relatively large amount of funds each year to attain it. As the technology require a high
level of funds to support its technical research group and advanced equipment like new vessels and
processing plants. It also needs fund to hire management expertise to monitor and manage on the
firm s value chain. And to dig new produce species and new market worldwide also needs vast
funds. Therefore, CS needs to make sure it has sufficient funds yearly to attain its current strategy.
Moreover CS will be unable to attain higher revenue if the firm over diversified its product and
trading markets in hedging purpose. As the Canadian government controls severely on the seafood
producing industry that limited each firm s ability of seafood manufacturing (known as total
allowable catch (TAC)). CS has to keep its product species diversification by acquiring other peer

Photoautotroph And Autotrophs Similarities
Autotrophs and heterotrophs are two different organisms that have distinct traits that differentiate
them from one another. Autotrophs produce their own food for their energy while heterotrophs are
dependent on other organisms for their food, due to this autotrophs are known as primary sources
on the food chain level while heterotrophs are the secondary and tertiary sources due to their
reliance on autotrophs. Autotrophs are separated in two groups, photoautotrophs and
chemoautotrophs, an example of a photoautotroph is algae, photoautotrophs collect their energy
from sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water. Iron Bacteriais an example of a chemoautotroph,
chemoautotrophs derive their energy from oxidation, which is the process of gaining oxygen....

Analysis Of When Morning Comes By Arushi Raina
Over the past five weeks, my group and I read the novel, When Morning Comes written by Arushi
Raina. This story takes place in 1976 during the Soweto Uprising in South Africa; a student lead
protest against the Baas Laws, which required subjects to be taught in Afrikaans. The protagonists:
Jack, Zanele, Meena, and Thabo start out as strangers with different racial identities, but through a
series of chance meetings, each of their lives change significantly. During our Booktalk meetings, I
was able to greater discuss some of the challenges that the protagonists faced, gain knowledge and
insight about the novelfrom my peers, compare and contrast the themes in When Morning Comes
with those in other books, and connect the novel to concepts learned in class. Before reading When
Morning Comes, I hoped that the book would offer me some insight into how much our education
system has progressed and improved, but it made me think about so much more than that. In When
Morning Comes, each protagonist faces their own set of challenges. Even though each of the
characters have very different identities, there are also many similarities between them. Zanele and
Jack are polar opposites in terms of racial identityand social class, but what they have in common
is their desire for love. Compared to the other characters in the novel, Jack is very privileged; he
is white, his family has a lot of money, he has a girlfriend and lots of friends, and is heading to

How The Pain And Trauma Of The Holocaust Affected Artie...
In Art Spiegelman s graphical novel Maus his demonstration of the Holocaust and its recollection in
Maus was very emotional, affecting and the most expressing. The approach that the author has
taken construes and magnifies the comical shape of telling history. It portrays Spiegelman dialog
between himself and his father about his happenings as holocaust and polish jew survivor. Most of
the narrative specifically focuses on Spiegelman s difficult connection with his father, and the
nonappearance of his mother who committed suicide when he was 20.In this essay I will be
examining the experience of trauma and memory in Maus. Also I will be showing how the pain and
trauma of the Holocaustaffected Artie and Vladek s diasporic memories. Trauma usually describes
the association with chronological or combined traumatic proceedings to experiences that happen to
others. These occasions are internalized circuitously through images, and stories and other recaps
and reminders of their family s occurrences. Spiegelman also investigates and addresses the load
and legacy of distressing reminiscence on second generation survivors. In the narrative Maus
discovers and documents this behavior of dual memory. Throughout the story Art talks about the
state of affairs in which his father s reminiscences are expressed. The chronological and personal
trauma produced by the Holocaust, and by simplifying the reintegration of the following generation
to its past.

It has been altered by social, political, and economic factors. More specifically, warring times,
changes to social structures, and economic activity that varies by country have been the overall
leading factors that have shaped the Olympics over the years. The Olympics have shown over the
decades that they can be affected by political conflict. However, it seems that this is the point of the
Olympics, to illustrate national pride, by competition. Bloodshed should not be the way for pride of
one s country to be shown, but it should be shown through competition, in the words of the founder
of the modern Olympic movement, Pierre de... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the dramatic increase in the fees paid to broadcast Atlanta s games illustrates the time of
peace after the Cold War ended, with over 800 million dollars being given to broadcast the
games(9).
Finally, the Olympic games are altered by the diverse and changing social structures in the world.
For instance, in 1908 a photograph of British competitor Sybil Newall shooting her bow was
found on newspapers across England(2). Whether this photograph was staged to sell newspapers
or not, it cannot be denied that this photograph indicates the beginning of women s movement,
which was obviously an important issue during this time in the world. With more leniency being
given to women during this time, they were eventually being allowed to compete in the
competitive events, though only 2% of the athletes were women. This factor also continues to
show during the 1992 games held in Spain, where by then 29% of women were competing.
Hassiba Boulmerka was an Algerian competitor during this time and spoke in an interview about
her critics, and how being the first Algerian to win an Olympic title did not depend on her gender,
but simply on her strength in her mind and in body. Boulmerka was heavily criticized by Muslim
groups in Algeria for wearing shorts as she ran in the events. Despite this, the games illustrated the
decreasing requirements for dresses and increasing requests for

Friday Night Lights, By H. G
Friday night, under the fluorescent lights glistening off the white shinning helmets with a large
black letter P on both sides. The smell of popcorn and hotdogs fill the air. The screams of twenty
thousand fans echo throughout the arena. That s more than the number of fans at some NBA
games. Football is more than a game to the people of this town. It s a way of life, it s serves as a
way out for many in the town, and it helps forget the horrible economic struggles the town faces.
Football for this town created a false atmosphere, and became an addiction to this town. Football
becoming an addiction has positives and many negatives. Friday Night Lights, by H. G.
Bissinger, tells the story of the small town of Odessa, Texas, and how football has become an
addiction and taken over the lives of everyone in the town. First, football is more than a game to
the people of Odessa, Texas it s a way of life. Something they ve been taught about since the day
they were born. The tradition, the honor, the respect that you receive from playing on the Permian
football team. This isn t you average High school footballteam where you walk on and your apart
of the team. If you suck then don t even bother to try out. These kids learn the guts that it takes to
be able to even put on a practice jersey for the team. Football is fearless to the people. The parents
want their children to play even though they could get seriously injured. Their not like some

Hamlet s Grief
Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother, / nor customary suits of solemn black / [ . . . ] but I
have that within which passeth show; / these but the trappings and the suits of woe (Shakespeare
1.2.76 73, 85 86) says Hamlet when confronted about his way of grieving over his father s recent
death. Shakespeare s play Hamletis a remarkable tale that is centered on the idea of death and grief.
While death is a universal occurrence, meaning every person will deal with it, how we grieve
after a loss is completely individual. To look at a formula of grief, most turn to the five stages of
grief developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross, a psychiatrist, who studied the topic in her book On
Death and Dying. This model consists of denial, anger,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea of acceptance of death proven in Hamlet s line to Horatio after being challenged to a

/ if it be not now, yet it will come. The readiness is / all. Since no man of aught he leaves knows,
what / is t to leave betimes? Let be (5.2.221 225). This is an important line in the play because it
shows Hamlet s acceptance of death in his own terms and everyone else s, meaning if it is
supposed to happen, it will. This also shows Hamlet s acceptance of his destiny when
concerning death and revenge. At the end of the play, when Hamlet is dying from the poisoned
sword, he does not grieve or think of what will happen to his spirit. Instead he moves on by
passing on his vote for Fortinbras and requesting that his story be passed on by Horatio (5.2.349,
356 357). This desire to move on shows the acceptance of Hamlet s faith, and the final stage of the
Kubler Ross model. Throughout Shakespeare s play Hamlet, the characters clearly describe the
grief they are experiencing through their poetic lines. Using the Kubler Ross model, the audience
can dissect the grief process to better understand Hamlet s intentions. In the play, Hamlet
experiences strong emotions concerning grief, including his examples of depression, anger, and
finally, acceptance. The play shows that while the model was created in 1969, the

Pipettes Lab
This experiment was conducted to determine the extent to which commercially bought pipettes
accurately deliver desired volumes. A range of small and large volumes of DI water were drawn
using three different sized pipettes and massed using an analytical balance. The weights of the
water aliquots were divided by the appropriate densityof water at 26 to calculate the actual volumes
delivered. Error percent analysis was then utilized to deduce the deviation from the accurate
volumes. The three different sizes of pipettes used were Epprendorf 10, 100 and 1000 L. The
results entailed a higher accuracy in delivering the large volumes, compared to the small volumes,
within the same pipette. In addition, the medium sized pipette (10 100L) was the most accurate in
delivering the targeted volumes.

Then, a10ВµL pipette was equipped with the appropriate tip, and the volume was set to 1ВµL.
The pipette was then immersed in the DI water and used to draw the set volume and deliver it to

1ВµL of water, and the cumulative weight was recorded. After that, the weighing boat was
removed from the balance, dried, placed back, and the balance was tared again to read 0g. Now
the volume was set to 9ВµL by adjusting the micropipette knob, and 5 cumulative weights of
9ВµL aliquots of water were measured. The entire process was repeated for a second trial.
Moreover, the 2 trial cumulative weighing process for the small and large volumes was repeated

Mass Shootings Analysis
According to Why the US has the most mass shootings The United States makes up one third of
all global massacres. Lankford has found that attacks from mentally ill citizens has tripled from
2011 to 2014. During that time period it was averaged to have an attack every 64 days. Some
researchers believed mass killings to be contagious; one killing increasing the chance of others to
occur in two weeks. This phenomenon is more likely because guns are more accessible in The
United States, compared to other countries. The statistics do show that more restrictive gunlaws
make a difference. Australia, for example, had four mass shootings between 1987 and 1996. After
those incidents Parliament passed stricter gun laws and Australia hasn t had a mass

The Similarities Between Plato s Atlantis And Thera-Santorini
The Links between Plato s Atlantis and Thera/ Santorini The most popular theory to date is that
Atlantis was once located in Thera/ Santorini. Thera remains quite popular among Vulcanologists,
archaeologist, historians and Geologists as the Thera did encounter a natural disaster before Plato s
time. This natural disaster was extremely catastrophic, it had caused the island of Thera to be
uninhabitable for a number years. Reports about Theran culture suggest that they were an
intelligent and somewhat advanced culture; also their religion seemed to resemble Platos Atlantean
culture. Though unlike the various theories about Atlantis the Theran theory continues to provide

The Function Of The Song Beijing Welcomes You By Ke Zhaolei
Music can be found everywhere in our world and has many different functions. Since music is
universal it is important to understand the way describe music using terms such as timbre, pitch,
rhythm and dynamics as well as keeping in mind the social, cultural and political roles that music
falls into. The song BeijingWelcomes You is a chinese song composed by Ke Zhaolei for the 2008
Beijing olympics and features many different artists from Asia. This recorded piece of musicis a
representation of modern day chinese music as well as the incorporation of the Beijing culture.
In the song Beijing Welcomes You , there is a clear distinction that the song is sung by both female
and male artists based on the vocal timbre of the song. The vocal ... Show more content on

The pattern of the song has a beat that repeats itself at a fixed rate. In addition to the fixed rate,
the song has an accent where one beat is emphasized and this can be heard by the increased
volume of that specific note. Towards the end of the song, the melodic contour of the song can be
described as a descending melodic contour as the pitches descend from high to low. This is done
by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic
structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the
performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a
wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important
aspect of the song is the dynamics. The beginning of the song can be classified as a crescendo
because of the increased musical sound from the instruments, however, towards the end there is a
decrescendo as the volume falls off and the artists holds on and extends the last note. The
crescendo in the beginning of the song is interesting to note because the song starts off acapella and
gradually the volume begins to increase when the first musical instrument comes into play. Last but
not least, this piece of music contains a lot of repetition. The vocal repetition of the songs title

Importance of the Friars in Much Ado About Nothing and Measure for Measure
In the plays Much Ado About Nothing and Measure for Measure, the friars are important
instruments in their respective storyline because of their assumed pure intentions of using
deception as a means to right the wrong doing within the play. They have the authority to

In a most God like manner, Friar Francis is concocting a sketchy plan to bring together two lovers
who, otherwise, were denied their rights by the treachery of Don Juan.
Measure for Measure follows the same theme with a twist because in this instance Friar
Lodowick is really the Duke, Vincentio. His role in this play is a little problematic because he is
not really a clergyman, but he seems to try to set things right. As the friar, he convinces the Provost
(4.2) to deceive Angelo and not hang Claudio, but to send him the head of another prisoner. By
using his religious authority to control Angelo he said, By the vow of mine order, I warrant you, if
my instructions may be your guide, let this Barnardine be this morning executed, and his head
borne to Angelo (4.2.156 58). Another death will convince the deceived ploy concocted by a friar,
the holy man.
Another form of deceit in this play is Isabella and Mariana s deception of Angelo, as planned by
the Friar. The Duke has them think that this is the best way to save Claudio and to reestablish
Mariana s engagement contract with Angelo, which he never honored, With Angelo tonight shall

Comparing Fences And A Face In The Crowd
August Wilson s Fences and A Face in the Crowd two significantly underrated masterpieces. The
stories are completely different but the main protagonists are very alike. When Lonesome was
at the top of the world he felt as if he was indestructible. Before everyone found out who he really
was he said I m not just an entertainer I m an influence, a wielder of opinion, a force... a force!
(A Face in the Crowd). Troy Wilson was the same, he said Death is nothing but a fastball on the
outside corner (Fences). He talks down on death and feels indestructible portraying a fastball as
an easy pitch. Making him feel immortal or invincible. Where these characters differ is in their
younger lives and somewhat in personality. Lonesome seems to have always been an alcoholic and
doesn t have a fulfilling past. We know this because Marcia asked him if he always drank so
harshly, which he replied saying Not always. Back in Riddle they was pretty strict. Didn t allow us

A New Study On The American Schooling System
A famous quote once said, Knowledge is power. A new study shows that the American schooling

Numerous court cases deal with Common Core, but there is this one that is in New Orleans that
stuck out the most. It states that a child should be easily able to accomplish to the next grade
without struggling. Students in elementary are getting college work, and not learning what they
need to get to go to the next grade. Children in Kindergarten are learning how to multiply before
they learn how to subtract or add. To some people, this sounds great, but is it? One should want
his or her child to find out how to add before multiply because it goes hand and hand. The people
that made Common Core made the parents believe that it is right for his or her child, however, the
curriculum includes hard topics that are learned in higher grades. Put a stop to Common Core

Essay on Symbolism in The Glass Menagerie
Symbolism in The Glass Menagerie
Symbolism plays an integral part in Williams s play, The Glass Menagerie. Examples of the use of
symbolism include the fire escape, as an escape from the family, the phonograph, as an escape from
reality, the unicorn, as a symbol for Laura s uniqueness and the father s photograph, representing
something different to each character. Through regonition of these symbols, a greater
understanding of the play s theme is achieved.
Throughout the play, Tom Wingfieldwas torn by a responsibility he felt for his mother and sister

lasted nine years, and the Persian Gulf War lasted a little over a year. Many veterans faced
hardships upon returning home. These hardships include: illness, homelessness, and unemployment
in the midst of one of America s worst economic depressions in history. Shouldn t veterans be
treated better?
The Persian Gulf War, otherwise known as the Gulf War was an international conflict that began in
August of 1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait. Kuwait is located on the northwestern corner of the
Persian Gulf. Kuwait is considered a wealthy country, with many oil refineries and a great
military advantage with the location along the Gulf ( Kuwait ). Iraq s leader Saddam Hussein,
ordered the invasion, with the goal of gaining possession of large oil reserves and expanding
Iraqi power in Kuwait ( Persian ). On August 3, 1990 the United Nations calls for Iraq to
withdraw their forces from Kuwait. After Iraq fails to cooperate, the United Nations begins a
worldwide ban of trade with Iraq. By January 1991, Iraq had still failed to remove their presence in
Kuwait, the United Nations authorizes the use of excessive force. On January 16, 1991 the United
States lead a massive air campaign against Iraq. Air bombardment began in mission to get Iraq out
of Kuwait. This air campaign became known as a mission

Margo, but the closer Q gets to her the more he discovers that she isn t who he thought she was.

Ebola Persuasive Speech
Many of us watched or read with horror the news of the school shooting in Washington state. Yet
our bigger concern seems to be about Ebola or the Islamic State group.
One of the four students injured at the Marysville Pilchuck High School in Washington state when
a freshman opened fire died, increasing the shooting s death toll to two (three if you include the
shooter himself). There are three other victims who are still in the hospital as a result of that
shooting: Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, Andrew Fryberg, 15, both of whom are in critical condition
and Nate Hatch, 14, who is in serious condition.
The young girl who died is Gia Soriano; she had a gunshot to her head, was in critical condition
and now, has died...she was only 14 years old. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This saddens me. Deeply.
I not only wept about this girl s passing, as a woman who has two children of her own; but as a
human being who sees the elephant in the room, which we as a nation and, we as parents are
clearly ignoring.
Our children are hurting.
The shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School in Washington state was the 38th(!) school
shooting this year in the United States.
Looking back, on this year, and many others; it seems theses shootings bring up discussion,
dialogue and controversy about the following issues;
a) Guns
b) Mental Illness

The Safety And Welfare Of The Wild Animals
The question if wild animals should live in city zoos is a question that has come up quite often.
There are multiple opinions, pros and cons to the safety and welfare of the wild animals. Zoo
officials do not take notice of the harm in keeping the wild animals away from their natural
environment, they contemplate it more as keeping the animals in a safe environment where they
can thrive and acquire the utmost care. Not everybody has the same mindset on this issue. Many
animal rightsactivist groups and well educated citizens continue to educate the media on the topic of
the harm and dangers of keeping wild animals in zoos. They strongly feel it is animal abuse to keep
such animals contained in a space that is not even close to the magnitude that they require and
accustomed to. Animal rights activists also feel that it is mentally unhealthy and is the cause for
the unpredictable behavior of the animals and the attacks that have taken place. Both sides have
strong arguments and documentations to support their standpoint.
Considering all my findings and looking at both sides I can sympathize with both zoo officials
and animal rights activists. Progressing into my research I had various mixed emotions and was
unsure if I agreed or disagreed with zoo officials and animal rights activists. As I did proceed with
my research I did come across some highly interesting findings, a few more appealing than others. I
have no doubt in my mind that both parties are

Area 51, a restricted area located in Southern Nevada, 100 miles north of Las Vegas (Jacobsen,
LA Times) is a mysterious site for those who have heard rumors about it. It also holds one of the
most popular conspiracies that the United States holds. As well as its conspiracies, it also holds its
history that dates back to the 1950s, as well as the OXCART program that benefitted the United
States Government. Area 51, also known as the Nevada Test Site, was designed to help test nuclear

trail that is about 26 miles to Tikaboo Peak. From even there, you will not be able to see much, if
anything. You may get a glimpse of a test plane taking off or the runway lights flashing but, the
lights around area 51 go off and it will be undetectable. Only the best of the best in the United
States government is able to go in there and they must sign an oath that ultimately tells them to
keep everything a secret. At this special building, there is no windows so no one can see what is
going on. Government officials usually use unmarked planes to fly to Area 51. They fly from Las
Vegas to the unknown location. They also use the word Janet to call everyone to the plane. There
is many conspiracy theories about Area 51. Time travel and Extraterrestrial life is two of many of

Standardized Tests Don t Measure Intelligence Essay
Standardized Tests Don t Measure Intelligence Students intelligence is often measured by
standardized tests, but these students are at their worst while taking the test and it does not
accurately measure their intelligence. Students are stressed, nervous, or simply do not take tests
well. Standardized tests also don t show how hard working a student is, which is important and
can be proven by a GPA. Many schools measure the teacher and school on how well they are
teaching based on how high of a score the students place on a standardized test. The problem with
this is that the people who make these standardized tests have no idea what the students have
learned in the classroom so that being said, the students often are not tested on what their teacher
has taught them during the school year. W. James Popham explains the mismatch of standardized
tests and what students are taught: To illustrate the seriousness of the mismatch that can occur
between what s taught locally and what s tested through standardized achievement tests, educators
ought to know about an important study at Michigan State University reported in 1983 by Freeman
and his colleagues. These researchers selected five nationally standardized achievement tests in
mathematics and studied their content for grades 4 6. Then, operating on the very reasonable
assumption that what goes on instructionally in classrooms is often influenced by what s contained
in the textbooks that children use,

Essay on Private Motivations for War in The Iliad
Private Motivations for War in The Iliad
Wars are often complex in nature and are fought for diverse reasons.
In the Iliad, powerful gods, great nations, and heroic people all fight for
different reasons. Each has private motivations to fight the war. These
private motivations are of special interest, because they help define the
consequences and outcomes of the war. The universal war of the gods, social
war of the Greeks and Trojans, and the war for Achilles honor are private
motivations of the Trojan war. These private motivations seem to influence
and shape each other in many distinct ways.

This intervention by Zeus
lead to another outbreak of war between the Greeks and Trojans. The universal
war of Athena and Hera versus Aphrodite had Zeus so caught up in it that he did
not want the social war to end. A god in the universal war once again created
the social war between Troy and Greece. The universal war was the cause of the
social war of Greece and Troy.
The private war of Achilles honor was an outgrowth of the social war
between the Greeks and the Trojans. During the social war, Apollo grew angry at
the Greeks for the abuse of his priest, Chryses. The Greeks had abused Chryses
when Agamemnon took Chryses daughter, Chryseis, during the raid of the town
of Thebes. Agamemnon wanted a replacement for Chryseis, so he took Briseis from
Achilles. This deeply wounded the honor of Achilles, and he decided to stop
fighting in the social war until his honor was amended. Achilles was angered by
an event that occurred in the social war, thus providing the need for Achilles
to reclaim his honor. The social war was the cause of the private war of
Achilles. The opportunity for Achilles to carry out his private war came after
the death of his comrade, Patroclus. Because Achilles would not fight,
Patroclus asked him if he could wear his armor. Patroclus thought

Seneca Falls Convention Research Paper
Prior to the Seneca Falls Convention and the women s rights movements, women were mistreated
and limited in many ways. The Seneca Falls Convention brought a lot of attention to women s
rights and eventually led to what they are able to do today. In 1831, the Second Great Awakening
was happened across the northern part of the United States. Charles Grandison Finney allowed
women to lead prayer with men. In 1832, William Lloyd Garrison called for women to be involved
in the anti slavery movement. Lucretia Mottmet Elizabeth Cady Stantonwhen both attended the

Lucretia Mott was against that as were a lot of women had thought that it was outrageous that
women would have the right to vote, there it actually ended up being included. Frederick

The story Daisy Miller is a romance of a love that can never be. The character Annie P. Miller
(known as Daisy Miller) is portrayed as a young naive wild yet, innocent girl who want to do
nothing more but have fun with the company she please. The story Daisy Miller is a lot like The
Age of Innocence. In both the movie and the book the leading ladywas shunned from society
because of their behavior. Both Daisy and the Countess Olenska were misunderstood and out casted
because they were saw as different. These women did not want to conform to what the society
thoughtwas proper and good, they had their own opinion and was bold in their time to state it.

She enjoyed herself and that was enough for her to be happy.
The Countess Olenska was much like Daisy. The Countess was a free sprit who did not care that
society did not agree with her suing for a divorce. She wanted to be free. She hated when
everyone that she felt were so nice turned and gave her the cold shoulder. The Countess did not
like being shunned so she did give consideration to society s chants. She did not sue for the
divorce but she refused to go back to her husband. Society was not the reason for her actions
although, considered, did not make the final decision.
Like every romance there has to be a charming gentlemen. In The Age of Innocence there were
Newland and Winterborne in Daisy Miller . These two man were a lot alike and in so many ways
so different. They were different because of their circumstance but also had different point of views.
They were both gentlemen and made choices as gentlemen should.
Newland was a gentlemen gentleman. He did not like for people to talk ghastly of The Countess.
He felt she should make her own choice. Newland was inclined to a woman being equal to and
having equal freedom as a man. Newland, however, had a set of circumstance that made this
romance go for a loop. Newland was engaged to The Countess Olenska s cousin. The fact did not
stop him from confessing his love to The Countess. He made the choice to go ahead with the
wedding, with the help of The Countess Olenska, just as

Lifestyle Magazine As An Example
Using Lifestyle magazine as an example, explore how media texts target specific audience.
Lifestyle magazine are magazines that tells the audience about the lifestyle they live and can have
an impact on their lives as their views can be subverted by the ideology of the magazine. This
ideology comes from the creators of the magazine; they put what they think instead of what the
public thinks about a certain topic. In this writing i am going to talk about what the lifestyle
magazines do in order to attract specific audience and how they achieve in targeting specific
audience.
The two lifestyle magazines that i am going to talk about are FHM and Cosmopolitan magazine.
These magazines were released on november 2013 and the target audience between the two has
links and oppositions. On both magazines, the central image is the image of females; which
suggests that these magazines are targeted at female. But, on the front of these magazines it is a
picture of seductive females which implies that the audience is different and possibly males as they
would get attracted.
I am going to start by analysing how FHM targets their audience and keep their loyalty so that they
would not look for another magazine to replace the FHM magazine they currently hold. This
magazine is promoting anti feminism as the main central image is of a woman with a seductive look
which is representing woman in a negative manner. Also, further connotes objectification of woman
as the clothes signifiers shows

  • 4. The Worlds Of The Last Man Essay In the worlds of The Last Man by Marry Shelly and A Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood, the lives of the survivors of the apocalypse are thrown into chaos. In The Last Man, the people of England are driven out of their native home by the plague and forced into the desolate wasteland that is Europe. In A Handmaid s Tale, Gilead society has torn Offred away from her past life and severed all her connections to it. In these troubled times, characters turn to religion either by force or their own free will. In apocalyptic scenarios in literature, the fragmentation of memories make the victims of the event susceptible to the controlling influence of religion. Over the course of the novel, Offred continuously reminds the reader of stories of what she was taught by the Aunts at the Red Center. Offred recalls her old life I think about laundromats. What I wore to them: shorts, jeans, jogging pants. What I put into them: my own clothes, my own soap, my own money, money I had earned myself. I think about having such control. Now we walk along the same street, in red pairs, and no man shouts obscenities at us, speaks to us, touches us. No one whistles. There is more than one kind of freedom, said Aunt Lydia. • 5. The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way in which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality of particular characters. Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O Neill because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis. Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the other characters almost like a buffer. His calm nature in times of distress or excitement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the play would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds diversity to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O Donnell. When compared to characters like O Donnell Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon. Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O Neill to show a weakness in O Neill s character. O Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly O Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O Neill takes Harry for granted showing another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led. Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In doing this it controls our climate, provides light, raises tides, and drives the food chain (Schaefer 34). Our Sun also has influenced many beliefs now and in the past. History has documented Sunworshipping religions while many current societies use solar calendars (Schaefer 34). Because the Sun is so influential, imperfections of the Sun, such as sunspots will continue to impact life on Earth. In each sunspot pair in the northern hemisphere the first spot has a north magnetic polarity and the second has a south magnetic polarity while in the southern hemisphere it is the opposite pattern. In sunspot groups the polarity of the sunspots gets increasingly complex (Nicolson 124). The sunspots follow a cycle of eleven years. The number of sunspots varies monthly from zero to the hundreds. During the eleven year cycle there are periods called solar maximum and solar minimum where the number of sunspots reaches its peak or low. At the time of solar max the Sun s magnetic poles reverse. The north magnetic pole switches to extend through the southern hemisphere and the south magnetic pole extends through the northern hemisphere. In fact the Sun reached its solar max in February of this year (Philips 1). According to astrophysicist, K. V. K. Using concepts learned from the unit, theory as learned, can be applied to business situations and enables them to review situations in a nonlinear view. As quoted in the study guide To answer such questions using an economics looking glass we first have to define what economics is. Economics is a way of thinking. (Walker Murphy 2013). Traditionally, workers in siloed organisations, may concentrate and look at problems within the business relevant to their specific requirements, however, from an economic decision making point of view we can make a more informed decision. eg. There are many different biological approaches that explain the reasons for eating disorders they all have some validity behind them to a certain extent. An eating disorder is a psychological dysfunction that causes a person to change their eating habits to eating less, or more etc. Firstly a biological approach was studied by Holland (1988) on genetic concordance between identical twins and non identical twins. For using concordance rates these studies can be criticised, since concordance rates alone cannot be to blame for twins developing an eating disorder, the causes can also be observational experiences/ learning such as constantly being surrounded by thin people and you are overweight. Fava did another study done on eating disorder on seretonin. Fava discovered a link between the levels of seretonin and anorexia. This showed that biologically the levels of seretonin in a person could cause them to develop anorexia. However Fava did not show whether this change in the levels of seretonin he discovered was a cause for the participants developing anorexia or whether it is a result of anorexia. Since people who suffer from anorexia are often depressed it is difficult to show whether it is a result or cause. Garfinkel and Garner did another study on biological causes for anorexia. • 23. Hamlet s Grief Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother, / nor customary suits of solemn black / [ . . . ] but I have that within which passeth show; / these but the trappings and the suits of woe (Shakespeare 1.2.76 73, 85 86) says Hamlet when confronted about his way of grieving over his father s recent death. Shakespeare s play Hamletis a remarkable tale that is centered on the idea of death and grief. While death is a universal occurrence, meaning every person will deal with it, how we grieve after a loss is completely individual. To look at a formula of grief, most turn to the five stages of grief developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross, a psychiatrist, who studied the topic in her book On Death and Dying. This idea of acceptance of death proven in Hamlet s line to Horatio after being challenged to a fencing match with Laertes, if it be now, / tis not to come; if it be not to come, it will be now; / if it be not now, yet it will come. The readiness is / all. Since no man of aught he leaves knows, what / is t to leave betimes? Let be (5.2.221 225). This is an important line in the play because it shows Hamlet s acceptance of death in his own terms and everyone else s, meaning if it is supposed to happen, it will. This also shows Hamlet s acceptance of his destiny when concerning death and revenge. At the end of the play, when Hamlet is dying from the poisoned sword, he does not grieve or think of what will happen to his spirit. Instead he moves on by passing on his vote for Fortinbras and requesting that his story be passed on by Horatio (5.2.349, 356 357). This desire to move on shows the acceptance of Hamlet s faith, and the final stage of the Kubler Ross model. Throughout Shakespeare s play Hamlet, the characters clearly describe the grief they are experiencing through their poetic lines. Using the Kubler Ross model, the audience can dissect the grief process to better understand Hamlet s intentions. In the play, Hamlet experiences strong emotions concerning grief, including his examples of depression, anger, and finally, acceptance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pattern of the song has a beat that repeats itself at a fixed rate. In addition to the fixed rate, the song has an accent where one beat is emphasized and this can be heard by the increased volume of that specific note. Towards the end of the song, the melodic contour of the song can be described as a descending melodic contour as the pitches descend from high to low. This is done by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important aspect of the song is the dynamics. The beginning of the song can be classified as a crescendo because of the increased musical sound from the instruments, however, towards the end there is a decrescendo as the volume falls off and the artists holds on and extends the last note. The crescendo in the beginning of the song is interesting to note because the song starts off acapella and gradually the volume begins to increase when the first musical instrument comes into play. There are multiple opinions, pros and cons to the safety and welfare of the wild animals. Zoo officials do not take notice of the harm in keeping the wild animals away from their natural environment, they contemplate it more as keeping the animals in a safe environment where they can thrive and acquire the utmost care. Not everybody has the same mindset on this issue. Many animal rightsactivist groups and well educated citizens continue to educate the media on the topic of the harm and dangers of keeping wild animals in zoos. They strongly feel it is animal abuse to keep such animals contained in a space that is not even close to the magnitude that they require and accustomed to. Animal rights activists also feel that it is mentally unhealthy and is the cause for the unpredictable behavior of the animals and the attacks that have taken place. Both sides have strong arguments and documentations to support their standpoint. Considering all my findings and looking at both sides I can sympathize with both zoo officials and animal rights activists. Progressing into my research I had various mixed emotions and was unsure if I agreed or disagreed with zoo officials and animal rights activists. • 47. Standardized Tests Don t Measure Intelligence Essay Standardized Tests Don t Measure Intelligence Students intelligence is often measured by standardized tests, but these students are at their worst while taking the test and it does not accurately measure their intelligence. Students are stressed, nervous, or simply do not take tests well. Standardized tests also don t show how hard working a student is, which is important and can be proven by a GPA. Many schools measure the teacher and school on how well they are teaching based on how high of a score the students place on a standardized test. The problem with this is that the people who make these standardized tests have no idea what the students have learned in the classroom so that being said, the students often are not tested on what their teacher has taught them during the school year. W. James Popham explains the mismatch of standardized tests and what students are taught: To illustrate the seriousness of the mismatch that can occur between what s taught locally and what s tested through standardized achievement tests, educators ought to know about an important study at Michigan State University reported in 1983 by Freeman and his colleagues. These researchers selected five nationally standardized achievement tests in mathematics and studied their content for grades 4 6. Then, operating on the very reasonable assumption that what goes on instructionally in classrooms is often influenced by what s contained in the textbooks that children use, ... Lifestyle magazine are magazines that tells the audience about the lifestyle they live and can have an impact on their lives as their views can be subverted by the ideology of the magazine. This ideology comes from the creators of the magazine; they put what they think instead of what the public thinks about a certain topic. In this writing i am going to talk about what the lifestyle magazines do in order to attract specific audience and how they achieve in targeting specific audience. The two lifestyle magazines that i am going to talk about are FHM and Cosmopolitan magazine. These magazines were released on november 2013 and the target audience between the two has links and oppositions. On both magazines, the central image is the image of females; which suggests that these magazines are targeted at female. But, on the front of these magazines it is a picture of seductive females which implies that the audience is different and possibly males as they would get attracted. I am going to start by analysing how FHM targets their audience and keep their loyalty so that they would not look for another magazine to replace the FHM magazine they currently hold. This magazine is promoting anti feminism as the main central image is of a woman with a seductive look which is representing woman in a negative manner.
