On this workshop I’m planning to recognize the importance of building a digital ecosystem to achieve business agility, making it sustainable and how we could achieve that with Open APIs and API architecture and API first design. We are living in a world where customers looking for personalized and authentic experiences, different flavours of services and rapid change in need it's important to build a capability and capacity role out new products or new flavours of existing products.
- #4: Leading companies are increasingly offering an interconnected set of services—from Alibaba offering a broad ecosystem of lifestyle services (including retail, payments, credit scoring), to Apple launching an AppleCard with Goldman Sachs (expanding on ApplePay), and BMW/Daimler creating a shared mobility ecosystem with a number of startups (Car2Go, moovel, Mytaxi) under the Your Now brand. However, we still see that many companies that have tried to replicate the ecosystem successes of tech giants like Google and Amazon have struggled. Because ecosystems are complex, defining the right approach to capture maximum value from them is challenging. We recommend that companies determine their ecosystem strategy by assessing market characteristics and trends as well as their “fit” within specific ecosystems. Companies also need to assess their value-creation agenda.
- #5: Your digital ecosystem is built with many building blocks. Each building block has its own capabilities and aspirations. Our ability to build an ecosystem and sustaining it depends on how best we can qualify the and bond them together. It's a symbiotic relationship.
- #6: It's all about your ability to assemble a product using your data and applying operations on it. You will use data and capabilities of your ecosystem players using a standard mechanism. When you have a standard way of interacting with ecosystem players it will be easy to acquire capabilities. When you have the ability to package the capabilities in a standard way it increases the use.
