This review article summarizes research on applications that use smartphone sensors for agriculture. The authors conducted a systematic review of academic literature, identifying over 1,500 potential papers and narrowing them down to 22 relevant studies. These papers describe 25 total applications that were categorized as: 12 farming applications, 6 farm management applications, 3 information systems, and 4 extension services. The most commonly used sensors were GPS and cameras. This review found opportunities to develop more applications that utilize other sensors like accelerometers.
