Endosperm is a tissue produced inside seeds following fertilization that provides nutrition, usually in the form of starch. There are three types of endosperm development: nuclear, cellular, and helobial. Nuclear endosperm involves free nuclear divisions without cell wall formation initially, followed by centripetal cell plate formation. Cellular endosperm involves immediate cell wall formation after each division. Helobial endosperm first involves a cellular division followed by internal free nuclear divisions that ultimately result in cellular structure.
