This document provides a review of phonetic terms and symbols that students are responsible for ahead of an upcoming phonetics quiz. It includes charts of consonant and vowel symbols along with their phonetic properties. Students should be able to describe any consonant in terms of place and manner of articulation, voicing, and other features. They should also be able to describe vowels in terms of height, backness, rounding, and other properties. The quiz will test students' ability to convert between phonetic symbols and properties, relate sounds to vocal tract diagrams, and state similarities and differences between sounds.
