The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray
his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes

District 9, a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, was released in 2009 based on the
events that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 also known as Apartheid. The movie was
filmed entirely in South Africa and is about an alien spaceship that stalled above Johannesburg twenty
years before the movie takes place. On the spaceship is helpless and starving aliens, also known as
prawns due to their love of scavenging and their physical appearance. The word prawn actually comes
from the parktown prawn , which is a cricket down in South Africa that is considered a pest. The
aliens were hauled together in an area known as District 9 . The film is presented in a found footage
format by featuring some fictional footage along with some real interviews and news footage.

The Romans liked watching other people die; their gladiator games were there live entertainment. It is
believed that the first gladiators were slaves who were made to fight to the death at the funeral of a
famous aristocrat, Junius Brutus Pera, in 264 BC. The fight between the two was arranged in his
honor. Gradually the gladiator games became separated from funeral ceremonies and were staged by
the wealthy as a means of displaying their power and influence among the people in the local
community. The wealthy and elite classes could promote themselves by sponsoring the games, and

years alone our scientific understanding, technological achievements, and fragmentation of values has
transformed faster than in the previous 100 years alone. With our express style culture change, one has
to wonder what will be said about our culture another hundred years in the future. What is the one
thing that has defined us as who we are? A section on our slow ascent into socialism may be in order,
or maybe a chapter on our obsession with going green. However, I would suggest that the first chapter

This has led to a culture in which one does not wait for something, but expects to receive whatever
they desire instantly. This did not just translate into knowledge or things we needed. The average
person in the U.S today no longer waits to save up the needed funds to buy a new flat screen or other
new widget. Instead they finance it or put it on credit. Like their digital life on the internet they expect
it instantly. Our Descent into a Digital Culture of instant gratification has become part of who we are.
How can our digital culture be explained without our sudden need to cease communication with
others. That is unless it involves a smartphone or a twitter page. The previous generations of the
United States use to socialize at social events and would even go out and visit people that they wanted
to talk to. Sometimes they would actually put their thoughts down a piece of dried would pulp and
mail it. The digital culture that ours has become carries out these tasks in a rather different fashion. In
modern times social events can be defined as a group chat on Facebook. As far as visiting other human
beings, who needs to when there is twitter. Writing letters has become a very archaic form of
communication replaced by email. In our present culture most believe that the entire social stimulus
that one requires can be found on Facebook or Snap chat. This new found lack of human contact,

San Francisco s Secret Tiled Staircase
One of my favorite locations is this staircase because you do not only get to see a fantastic view of san
francisco but you also get to admire 163 steps decorated with 2,000 handmade tiles. It took 2 and a
half years until the artist, Colette Crutcher and over 300 volunteers, finally revealed the staircase. The
steps paint a picture of the sea flowing into the sky. A colorful twist of water and sea life swirl up the
steps to land with flowers, plants, birds, and frogs and ends with a beautiful sky with stars and even a

The Impact Of Dutch Colonization On Indonesia
Introduction:
The indigenous groups of Indonesia went to brutal extents in attempts to successfully fight for rights
and recognition from results of Dutch colonisation. The Dutch colonised Indonesia in 1677,
completely taking over the government. Significant figures involved; the different islands of
Indonesia, the Dutch East India Company, and the battles Indonesia went to in order to gain back their
independence. Long term impacts of the Dutch colonisation upon Indonesia improved and modernised
the lives of Indonesian people but as a result of traumatic and gruesome mistreatment of the
indigenous culture.
Pre colonization:
Before Western European influences had power over Southeast Asia, what is known as Indonesia used
to be an archipelago which consisted of individual islands and plantations ruled by different empires.
Occasionally living in peaceful coexistence yet at times being at war with each other due to the lack of
social and political unity that Indonesia has in todays society. Integrated trade networks, began
developing starting from the early evidence of Asian history. Being connected to trade networks was
an advantage for empires to gain wealth and resources, necessary to become a powerful influence. the
more foreign influences managed to enter, this development as these trade networks in the archipelago
became more global, eventually lead to the colonial state. A significant matter to the history of
