ARGUMENTS IN AN ANALYTICAL
EXPOSITION TEXT
Rusdi Noor Rosa
 A means used to defend the idea
 A means used in the process of reasoning
 A statement containing evidence
 An attempt to persuade someone of
something, by giving reasons for accepting a
particular conclusion as evident (Johnson,
R.H. 2000: 46)
Argument
 The act of delivering arguments is called
argumentation.
 Argumentation is human’s daily activities.
 Oral Argumentation vs. Written Argumentation
 Oral argumentation is easier than written one
because the speakers can use their facial
expressions, intonation and performance to
emphasize their ideas.
Argument vs. Argumentation
Argumentation is human’s daily
activities (Oral)

Having a part time job provides many advantages
for college students, because they can get new
experience, earn money and become more
responsible in their life.
Thesis
1st Argument
3rd Argument
2nd Argument
 Point: getting new experience
 Elaboration:
Brainstorm for the elaboration!
1st Argument
Firstly, in the job field, they can get new experience that is
really valuable in their life. Sometimes the experience is the
best teacher. Only few students can get a chance to have a
job in the study time. In addition, in the job field, they also
socialize with many people having different characteristics,
so they will have experience how to face such kind of people.
Automatically this is really helpful in their social interaction.
For instance, they will be more patient to face arrogant and
bad tempered people, and of course they can also solve their
problems.
1st Argument
Point
Elaboration
 Point: earning money
 Elaboration:
Brainstorm for the elaboration!
2nd Argument
Secondly, they can earn money by themselves. Although the
amount is not too much to fulfill their needs, but they think
that the money they earn can help their parent to fulfill their
own necessity, for example to buy books that can help their
study. Sometimes college students feel embarrassed to ask
their parent to buy books because studying in the college
needs many books to be bought. Meanwhile, they don`t want
to ask the money from their parent anymore, and a part time
job is really helpful to overcome this problem.
2nd Argument
Point
Elaboration
 Point: being more responsible in their
life
 Elaboration:
Brainstorm for the elaboration!
3rd Argument
Thirdly, by having part time job, they can be more
responsible in their life because they are thought as a
responsible people. Responsibility is the main factor that
enables them to keep their job because they are expected to
be professional in their work.
3rd Argument
Point
Elaboration
