The County Armagh Pact 2007 Does the internet have an effect on these teenagers?
Factfile Three 15 year old boys take their lives from County Armagh, and the surrounding area, in the last month. All three of the teenagers who have taken their lives were pupils at Craigavon Senior Hig8 School Dr Cassidy told the BBC he believes that up to 12 teenagers are involved in the male pact which involves “agreed dates”. He also said the suicides “have undoubtedly assisted by research done on the internet” where such information is widely available A rural community feared these teenagers formed a suicide pact on online chatrooms and that could claim even more lives
So the big question, does the internet kill these people? No suicide notes were left, giving free rein to the rumour mill. There has been talk of a suicide pact involving as many as 12 boys, arranged via internet chatrooms, and speculation about the involvement of websites promoting suicide Mrs Browne does not entirely discount some internet involvement. However, she does not believe in the mass suicide pact theory and thinks Wayne may have been exposed to damaging websites. Her suspicion was aroused after his death when she remembered that he had suddenly stopped going online But studies of suicides - so-called psychological autopsies - suggest that mental illness, such as depression is almost always involved. The suicide risk might be increased because the like-minded group talk about it, making it a more plausible alternative.
Just don’t do it! For the sake of your parents Instead of taking your life, why not save them. Be one of these :D
