Codes Visual  Auditory Technical
What are codes? In media language, the word code refers to when signs (images/sounds) work  together  to create meaning The colours red, amber and green all have separate connotations but when used together have a more complex system of meaning. E.g. Traffic lights.
Categories of codes There are three main categories of codes used for analysing media texts: Visual Auditory Technical
Visual Codes These are a combination of signs that cover: Colour, images, props, locations, décor, costumes, physical characteristics, positioning of objects/people
Auditory Codes Sound plays a significant role in creating meaning in media texts
Technical Codes Technical codes cover the production process. They include all physical decisions made to create meaning Framing Lighting Editing Special Effects (Colour )Grading
