This study explored the relationship between viewing paintings with aggressive content and levels of aggression. 30 participants were split into two groups - one viewed paintings with high aggression and the other viewed neutral paintings. Both groups completed an aggression questionnaire before and after viewing. Scores were compared between groups to see if aggression levels changed differently after viewing aggressive vs neutral paintings. The group that viewed aggressive paintings showed a statistically significant increase in aggression scores from pre-to-post viewing, suggesting viewing art with aggressive themes can impact viewer aggression levels. The study provides initial evidence on how art exposure may influence emotions but more research is needed.
