Leisure Studies AS Level
The AS and Advanced GCE enables students to develop a broad understanding of principles within the leisure industry. In addition, the qualification covers a mixture of teaching and learning experiences from theoretical through to those with a clear practical emphasis. You will be given the opportunity to explore and discuss interest and aspirations whilst developing skills, knowledge and understanding of the Leisure Industry.  
AS – Leisure Studies Three units Unit 1 – The Leisure Industry Today (coursework)  Unit 2 – A People Business (exam) Unit 3 – Getting it Right in the Leisure Industry (coursework)
Unit 1 The leisure industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the UK and Europe, and affects everyone’s life. This unit provides an over-arching understanding of the dynamic UK and European leisure industry. You will investigate: The leisure Industry and its definitions The range, scale and importance of the leisure industry within the UK and the rest of Europe Key factors influencing access, participation and barriers in the leisure industry Key aspects of the market and how it can influence the leisure industry Sectors and partnerships within the leisure industry Current developments in the leisure industry, including the role of the media.
Unit 2 In this unit you will investigate: Provision for customer needs and expectations Key principles of successful customer service Staff and their communication with customers The importance of the customer to the leisure industry The significance of product knowledge in providing customer service Different methods used to evaluate standards of customer service the development of customer service skills and their application in dealing with a range of customers with different needs
Unit 3 The leisure industry, as with all industries, whether large or small, must provide a safe working environment for staff and customers. It is also essential for staff to follow set procedures and use appropriate technology in order to maintain records, accounts and membership details. In this unit you will investigate:  Safe working practices in the leisure industry Key quality control and management systems used in the leisure industry, including IIP and QUEST Key business systems used in leisure organisations Key aspects of marketing used in the leisure industry
