The document presents a novel quality of service (QoS) architecture called Adaptive Services (A-Serv), which decouples packet structures from router functions to enhance scalability and service guarantees for individual data flows. A-Serv utilizes load adaptive routers that process packets based on the load burden, providing differentiated services while overcoming the scalability issues inherent in existing architectures like Integrated Services and Differentiated Services. Empirical analysis shows that A-Serv can better manage service differentiation and protect against malicious data flows compared to its predecessors.
