This document provides an introduction to data journalism. It discusses how data journalism has existed for a long time but is now easier with computers and tools. Data journalism collects, analyzes, and visualizes data to tell stories in an understandable way. Good data journalism starts with a research question and uses reliable, reusable data sources. Examples provided analyze social phenomena across locations and over time, and how vaccines impacted disease rates in the US. Civic participation can also contribute to data journalism investigations.
