Definition
• What is sexual harassment ?
-Unwelcomed sexual advances' ,request for sexual favors and other
verbal and physical conduct of sexual natures .
Who harass?
• Anyone can harass ,juts as anyone can be a target of sexual
harassment regardless of their race , age or professional positions
Where does it happen ?
• The conduct can happen anywhere whether is is school
,organizations , hospitals ,restaurant or hotels .
Modules objectives
• -Define the legal term of sexual harassment and identify the
evolutions of laws relating to sexual harassment
• -distinguished the types of sexual harassment
• -explain why sexual harassment is a problem at workplace
• -identify who is harmed by the conduct
• -Demonstrate steps to take in response to experiencing sexual
harassment
• Identify the role of the employee , managers , supervisor realating
to sexual harassment
Impact of sexual harassment
• How does it impact the individuals
• It usually impact employees work environment and created a
draining and hostile workplace environment for employee.
Legal definition
• Legal background ;
• -Title VII of the civil rights act of 1964
• -Civil rights act of 1991
• -According to the law , sexual harassment it’s a discrimination
that violate the title VII of the civil right act of the 1964 ,which
sates that its illegal to discriminates employees because of colors
, race and origin .
Types of sexual harassment
•_ Quid pro Quo
•_ Hostile work environment

Quid pro quo
• It happens when it states and implies a decision about employees
of hiring or promoting depends on whether or not the employees
submit to the conduct of sexual behaviors .
• - It when you have to submit in order to keep your job
• Example of quid pro quo :
• If you have to go on a date with your boss in order to get
promoted or keep your job :
Hostile environment
• Define Hostile environment :
• -It when the unwelcomed behaviors creates a draining and
intimidating workplace such as abusive that it affects ones ability
to perform well at work.
Where does it come from
• Sexual harassment usually comes from a person who have power in
the company however ,sometimes harassment comes from
employees who tries to manipulate the boss .
• For example : a supervisor can harass an associate ,and an
associates can harass a manager etc.….
Types of sexual harassment
• Examples :
• -Dirty jokes
• -questioning ones sexuality
• -objectifying someone or making jokes about their privates parts
• Showing sexual naked images or magazines
• Who could sexual harassed
• -Men to women
• Women to men
• Men to men
• Women to women
Flirting VS sexual harassment
• Differences between sexual harassment and flirting .

It is reciprocal feels draining

Why do people harassed others
• - To bullies others
• -To seek and attempt approval
• To socially control someone
• To express power and dominance to someone
Preventing sexual harassment
• Must take a immediate precautions and correctives actions
• Inform your boss or Human resources
• documentations of action taken
• Advise participant of their right regarding the policies
• Communicate actions taken to the victim ,explain what people should do
if their being harassed .
Ways of handling sexual harassment
• Speak up !!!!!!
• immediately inform your boss
• Allert human resources
• File a law suit
• Keep tract of documentations
Please keep in mind that Submitting to sexual harassment is not
counted as a defense than an employer can use to avoid liability in
sexual harassment suit .
Steps for handling complaints
>Take the complains
>Interview both parties ,the victim and the harasser
>Start an investigation
>take actions if necessary
Questions to ask the victim
• > Who was involved ?
• Where did it occurred?
• Was there any witness ?
• Is this the first time that it happens ?
• Has it happen before
• For how longs has this been going
• What was your reaction to it?
• Was it physical or verbal did the person threatened you ?
Question not ask the victim
• Why didn't report it before ?
• What were you wearing ?
• Do you want to keep working here ?
What to do if talking to the harasser
• Ask the person to clearly respond to the accusations
.Stay unbiased
• Don’t accuse
• Stay on topic
• Be serous when talking about the issues
• Document the meeting
• Take action based on your findings
• Follow up with the accusers
The effects of sexual harassment at the
organizations
Sexual harassment does not just affect the victim and worksite ,it
cost the organizations as well . For example;
• Negative publicity about the company .
• Depositions .
• Trails .
• Negative impact on managers and supervisors.
• Loosing employees.
What to do if you observe sexual harassment
• It is not just the victims job to stop the behaviors , anyone who
feels uncomfortable witnessing sexual harassment can play a role
of stopping it and speaking, even though it might seem risky .
What are the steps that an organizations can
take to prevent sexual harassment ?
• > provide employees with trainings programs and a handout about
work policies including sexual harassment .
• > Have managers , supervisors to complete training, at least twice
a year about work place harassment.
• > Get buy in from the top.
