E- Content
The learning content can be considered as the academic property and knowledge to
be delivered to the learners.
E-learning content includes the course outline, modules of traditional education
and multimedia content. In the field of E-learning such content may include; text,
audio, video, animation and simulation.
Education today is more limited to class room study and textbooks. E-learning or
online course are the latest development in the field of education. These course
deliver the matter to the recipients through the online medium. This has increased
the scope for students, as well as companies engaged in the creation as content.
E-content development is a rapidly growing field and a lucrative business. This has
led to the birth of several E-learning content companies. The subject matter experts
(SME),who create the content and support them with graphs and images to make
them stimulating.
In traditional training, SMEs assemble material for learners and teach them
directly, while in e-learning ,SMEs provide IDs with the information and
knowledge they need to prepare e-learning materials and activities. The extent of
SMEs contribution can vary , depending on the amount of and quality of existing
material.
In fact , it is very likely that a set of materials for a specific subject is already
available.These can consist of :
 User manuals and technical documentation.
 Classroom course handouts and lecture notes
 Presentations , such as power point slide shows
 Documented case studies
 Photographs,images,graphs tablesand other illustrative materials
 Training materials such as self study guides, web guides and other distance
learning materials
 Reference materials such as specialized thesauri and glossaries
TIPS FOR CONTENT DEVELOPMENT
 Before developing the content for the assigned lessons , review the proposed
learning objectives.
 Make sure that the content and knowledge assessment test and exercises
“match ” the lesson objectives at every step in the work flow process
 Provide all the knowledge needed to meet the learning objectives.
 People taking the course from different backgrounds, so use a variety of
examples.This will help the learners understand and remember concepts.
 Classify topics for each lesson as follows
1 . Must know : a core part of the content ;the learner needs to understand
these concepts.
2. Nice to know: the learner could get by this information , but it could help
develop a better understanding of the subject , or add interest for the learner
TIPS ON LANGUAGE STYLE
 Write directly, simply, and clearly.To accomplish this , keep sentences short.
 It is important to not give the reader more ideas or information that can be
handled at one time.
 Avoid jargon
 If you are addressing a multi cultural audience , avoid culture-specific slang
 Minimize the use of compound sentences
 Use bulleted lists when appropriate
 Spell out acronyms in full the first time they are used .Consider adding them
to glossary if appropriate
 Use gender inclusive, non- sexist language(e.g. sexist:” over the years,men
have continued to use nonrenewable resources at increasing rates”. Gender

M-LEARNING
M-learning or mobile learning is defined as "learning across multiple contexts,
through social and content interactions, using personal electronic devices.” A
form of distance education, m-learners use mobile device educational
technology at their time convenience.
M-learning technologies include handheld computers, MP3 players, notebooks,
mobile phones and tablets. M-learning focuses on the mobility of the learner,
interacting with portable technologies. Using mobile tools for creating learning
aids and materials becomes an important part of informal learning.M-learning
is convenient in that it is accessible from virtually anywhere. Sharing is almost
instantaneous among everyone using the same content, which leads to the
reception of instant feedback and tips. This highly active process has proven to
increase exam scores from the fiftieth to the seventieth percentile, and cut the
dropout rate in technical fields by 22 percent. M-learning also brings strong
portability by replacing books and notes with small devices, filled with tailored
learning contents.
E-Learning has provided the ability for traditional learning to break out of the
classroom setting and for students to learn at home. Mobile learning has
enhanced upon e-learning by taking it a step further and allowing students to
learn virtually anywhere a mobile signal is available.
New mobile technology, such as hand-held based devices, is playing a large
role in redefining how we receive information. The recent advances in mobile
technology are changing the primary purpose of mobile devices from making or
receiving calls to retrieving the latest information on any subject.
Class management
Mobile devices (such as a Pocket PC) in the classroom can be used to enhance
group collaboration among students through communication applications,
interactive displays, and video features.
Existing mobile technology can replace cumbersome resources such as
textbooks, visual aids, and presentation technology
• Interactive and multi-mode technology allows students to engage and
manipulate information.
• Mobile Device features with WI-FI capabilities allow for on-demand access
to information
• Access to classroom activities and information on mobile devices provides
a continuum for learning inside and outside the classroom.
Class management
Mobile devices can be used in brick-and-mortar or online settings to enhance
learning experiences.
• The mobile phone (through text SMS notices) can be used especially for
distance education or with students whose courses require them to be highly
mobile and in particular to communicate information regarding availability of
assignment results, venue changes and cancellations, etc. It can also be of
value to business people, e.g. sales representatives who do not wish to waste
time away from their busy schedules to attend formal training events.
 Mobile devices facilitate online interaction between instructor and student,
and student to student.
 Blended learning takes the classroom out of a traditional brick-and-mortar
setting. Students become part of virtual communities used for collaboration.
Blended learning transitions away from a traditional teaching environment
to a customized and interactive web platform for the user
Podcasting
Podcasting consists of listening to audio recordings of lectures. It can be used
to review live lectures) and to provide opportunities for students to rehearse
oral presentations. Podcasts may also provide supplemental information to
enhance traditional lectures .
Psychological research suggests that university students who download
podcast lectures achieve substantially higher exam results than those who
attend the lecture in person (only in cases in which students take notes)

Lifelong learning and self-learning
Mobile technologies and approaches, i.e. Mobile Assisted Language
Learning (MALL), are also used to assist in language learning. For instance
handheld computers, cell phones, and podcasting have been used to help
people acquire and develop language skills
• Improving levels of literacy, numeracy, and participation in education
amongst young adults.
 Using the communication features of a mobile phone as part of a larger
learning activity, e.g.: sending media or texts into a central portfolio, or

The modern electronic class room provides experiences that are quite interesting to
suit the needs of multiple learners. This is possible with networking of computers
to provide web based learning. This is a powerful medium to enhance teaching and
learning in school education.
Search engines:
Search engines are special sites on web that are designed to help people find
information stored on other sites.
Examples: www.altavista.com,www.yahoo.com,www.google.com,www.search.com
The concept of a web resource is primitive in the web architecture, and is used in
the definition of its fundamental elements. The term was first introduced to refer to

FluidMath
FluidMath is a relatively new series of software designed for math teachers that has
exploded in popularity. It is a powerful tool that can help teachers and students
make visual connections between different conceptual topics. Although only a free
trial is available at this time, log on and watch tutorials on how to integrate this
product into the classroom. Teachers have found that exploring graphs and
graphing equations on FluidMath allows students to explore advanced
mathematical concepts and relationships beyond their grade level.
NRICH project
Led by Jo Boaler, the NRICH project aims to enhance the mathematical
experiences of students by providing professional development, activities, and
lesson planning. Check out the “For Teachers” section on the right-hand side for
tasks, games, interactive tools, activity sets, curriculum mapping, and great ideas
for group work.

Math Forum, created and maintained by Drexel University, offers an online
community for teachers, students, parents, and anyone else who has an interest in
math. On the site, students can find extra help through Ask Dr. Math. Teachers can
access Math tools as well as professional development
KhanAcademy
Khan Academy is one of the world’s largest educational resources that is free for
all users. Khan uses a Pretest to determine an individual’s personalized learning
flow and makes use of this by showcasing mathematical understanding via the
learning dashboard. The dashboard compiles statistical data of a person’s work
history to demonstrate where mathematical concepts have been mastered and
where they should focus for improvement. In particular, teachers can view each
student’s performance through these learning dashboards to explore what they
need to focus on for mastery.
Algebra and geometry
Geogebra
GeoGebra offers online tutorials on mathematics software for learning and
teaching – all for free. GeoGebra features learning materials for elementary
through the university level, including interactive graphics, algebra explanations,
and spreadsheet data
GraphingStories
The idea is simple -- pass around a provided hand out to your students with several
blank graphs on them. Next choose from any one of several videos in the
“Graphing Stories” archives to either play streaming or download. Each video is a
miniature “story” taken from real-life filmed examples of everyday occurrences.
Finally, have the students graph the story in just 15 seconds. This innovative, easy-
to-use website is a great way to get students translating real-life examples of
mathematics into a functional graphing script.

It is a powerful tool that can help teachers and students make visual connections between different conceptual topics. Although only a free trial is available at this time, log on and watch tutorials on how to integrate this product into the classroom. Teachers have found that exploring graphs and graphing equations on FluidMath allows students to explore advanced mathematical concepts and relationships beyond their grade level. NRICH project Led by Jo Boaler, the NRICH project aims to enhance the mathematical experiences of students by providing professional development, activities, and lesson planning. Check out the “For Teachers” section on the right-hand side for tasks, games, interactive tools, activity sets, curriculum mapping, and great ideas for group work. MathForum Math Forum, created and maintained by Drexel University, offers an online community for teachers, students, parents, and anyone else who has an interest in math. On the site, students can find extra help through Ask Dr. Math. Teachers can access Math tools as well as professional development KhanAcademy Khan Academy is one of the world’s largest educational resources that is free for all users. Khan uses a Pretest to determine an individual’s personalized learning flow and makes use of this by showcasing mathematical understanding via the learning dashboard. The dashboard compiles statistical data of a person’s work history to demonstrate where mathematical concepts have been mastered and where they should focus for improvement. In particular, teachers can view each student’s performance through these learning dashboards to explore what they need to focus on for mastery. Algebra and geometry Geogebra GeoGebra offers online tutorials on mathematics software for learning and teaching – all for free. GeoGebra features learning materials for elementary through the university level, including interactive graphics, algebra explanations, and spreadsheet data

Next choose from any one of several videos in the “Graphing Stories” archives to either play streaming or download. The third act is the resolution -- the students “see” the answer as opposed to looking it up in the back of the book.
