COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT

PROMISING PRACTICES
• There are variety of ways that community engagement can be created. The ultimate goal for community
engagement within a school is to build those relationships and create a partnership that will benefit everyone,
students included.
• An article from the Learning Policy Institute gives several ideas to create engagement between schools, families,
and the community.
• Some ideas suggested were “ESL classes, greencard or citizenship preparation, computer skills, art, STEM, etc”
(Maier, Daniel, & Oaks, 2017).
• By utilizing these suggestions, communities, parents, and educators can have a “shared decision-making power”
(Maier, Daniel, & Oaks, 2017.
CURRENT
ASSESSMENT
• I would currently give our
school 3.5 stars out of 5.
Almost 4.
• HFHS has shown a job well
done when it comes to
including parents and the
community, but there is
always room for
improvement.
VISION
• With the help of you (our parents
and community), I believe that
HFHS could hold a 5-star rating in
just two years.
• We are well on our way now!
• For this to happen, we need to see
growth in the engagement of our
parents first. That will increase ties
to our community, which leads to
partnerships, growth, and success
of our students.
ROADMAP FOR
ENGAGEMENT
• In order to achieve a greater
engagement within our community for
the bettering of our students, we must
work together.
• We will utilize the suggestions from the
LPI article, as well as work together as a
team to produce other successful ideas.
• This image shares an important word;
failure. This is bound to happen, but
the way that our community bonds
together to overcome the failures will
determine the kind of success that we
create, not only for our students but for
ourselves as well.
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
• Our community has a strong array of cultural differences. With that comes much knowledge,
opinions, and resources. It is up to us to recognize our differences, but also become one.
• We have a rather large community and, in my opinion, the best way to reach most of our
community is through social media.
• Within our community there are also many different intellectual resources. Through our large
number of educators and the technology that we have, nothing is impossible!
• I believe that our district has done a great job of building a relationship with city officials and
other important leaders in the community. This opens the gates for knowledge to flow through
us all.
• If we can utilize each one of these resources to the best of our abilities, along with creating
opportunities for families to become involved, we will have a 5-star rating in no time and the
growth of our students will shine through their learning at school and in the community.
