Alfred was a sculptor who married a beautiful woman named Kaela. While Kaela was beautiful, she was dull and lazy. Kaela became ill during their travels and died. Kaela's friend Sophie, who was not beautiful but kind and helpful, cared for her. After Kaela's death, Alfred married Sophie, surprising others because Sophie was not as beautiful as Kaela. However, Alfred felt beauty of the mind was more important, and he loved Sophie for her kindness, generosity, and interesting personality.

She was also extremely kind and helped look after Kaela. Unfortunaltely, Kaela was extremely ill and died.
