• Everyplace as an interview
• Everyone you meet
– Same as you do for sales
– Same as for funding
• A process, not an event

Understand your DNA
• What you want your company to
be…inside
• Not the standard BS of integrity,
teamwork, etc
• What works and doesn’t
(sometimes this is easier)
• Determine 5 total (6 is max)
• Hire for this once they can do the
job
• Radical honesty is key here
• Hire and compensate accordingly

Know what to look for
• Go for Motivational fit
• Tell me about when you have been most satisfied
in your career….
• Tell me about when you have been least satisfied
in your career…..
• SHUT UP…..then ask “why” and “tell me more”
• Total of 5 mins per – they should be talking

Some other thoughts
• Assess skills, behaviors, aptitude
• Decide the tradeoffs between early hires and later
• Always be recruiting, have a future view
• Problems of “I hire everyone”
• Build talent pools (really)
– College campuses – be visible
– Internships
– Keep targets warm
• Don’t be afraid to ask…be open
