This document provides guidelines for applying Directive 94/9/EC, commonly called the ATEX Directive, which aims to harmonize laws across EU member states concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. The guidelines clarify concepts, procedures, and responsibilities laid out in the Directive. They are intended to facilitate the free movement of compliant products within the EU by achieving consistent application of the Directive. The guidelines cover topics such as the scope of the Directive, conformity assessment procedures, responsibilities of manufacturers and notified bodies, product marking requirements, and the relationship between the ATEX Directive and other applicable legislation.
