AtoM Community Update 2016

Editor's Notes

  • #5: AtoM was first developed with support from the International Council on Archives, as ICA-AtoM. Development began in 2007, and the 1.0-beta release was presented to the ICA Congress in 2008. The first non-beta release, 1.1, was publicly released in late 2010, and in late 2013, we released our 2.0.0 release. Currently we’re working on release 2.3, and beginning to look ahead to what AtoM 3.0 will look like.
  • #6: AtoM 2.2.0 was released July 10, 2015 – some of its major features are listed on this slide. This February, we prepared a 2.2.1 release with bug fixes, usability enhancements, and updated translations provided by our volunteer translation community. We’re now working hard on our upcoming 2.3 release.
  • #7: Let’s take a look at some of the major features that will be included in 2.3.
  • #8: NEW FULL-WIDTH TREEVIEW OPTION. Now an administrator can choose between the current side-bar treeview for hierarchical navigation and context, or a full-width treeview that displays all nodes in the descriptive hierarchy at once. The new full-width treeview also includes a bottom border that can be clicked and dragged to resize. Works with keyboard navigation as well.
  • #9: CONFIGURABLE INVENTORY LIST. An administrator can select what levels of description will be made available in a table-based inventory list, giving users another way to browse lower-level descriptions. The columns are all sortable – if there is a digital object attached, there will also be a link directly to its view page.
  • #10: SEARCH, BROWSE, and ADVANCED SEARCH RE-DESIGN. What was previously 3 different page types has been overhauled into one reusable template, with enhanced options. Now both facets and filters can be used together, along with Boolean queries, date range searches, and more. The advanced search panel is now available on all search/browse pages for archival descriptions. Empty facets will be hiden by default, and administrators will have some configuration options to hide certain filters if they are not being used.
  • #11: CLIPBOARD MODULE ADDED. Now uers can add descriptions to a session-based “clipboard” as they explore your holdings, and then view, sort, and print the results from a dedicated Clipboard page. Authenticated users will also be able to perform a CSV export of clipped results. We look forward to expanding this module in future versions, to accommodate further bulk actions.
  • #12: LIST VIEW TOGGLE ADDED TO ARCHIVAL INSTITUTION BROWSE. Previously the repository browse page was a card or tile-based page, somewhat like a Pinterest page. Now users can easily toggle between the card view and a table-based list view, with sortable columns and advanced searching filters. An administrator can also set the default view for users arriving on the page.
  • #13: RENAME MODULE. Now users can edit the permalink (or slug) of their description’s URL via the user interface, as well as change the description title without having to edit the whole description, or even edit the filename of any associated digital objects.
