HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
Audience: The people that view, read, listen, witness
something and have an interest in something
MY MAGAZINE FRONT COVER
I wrote 'Rock and indie' on my magazine which obviously
states the type of magazine it is, it suggests the type of
singer the article is about and I used the promotion of a
'free album' to entice readers to buy the magazine. I used
the words 'festival' and 'gig' on my magazine- this attracts
my target audience as they will be enthusiastic about
attending the events and they will be familiar with the
events.
THINGS THAT ATTRACT MY AUDIENCE.
I have used basic text to attract my audience, I used red,
white and black to entice my audience because these colours
are bold, striking, and work well with each other. The
magaizne NME has inspired me to use this colour scheme as
it has worked well with their target audiences. I have
positioned the majority of my text on the left hand side of my
front cover and on the right hand side of my contents page
and double page spread, this adds variety and also when the
reader opens the magazine their attention is straight away
focused on the text with the writing on it. I have positioned my
pictures on the opposite of the text, on the front cover the
focal point on the picture is on the right, whereas on the
contents and double page spread the photo is centred on the
left. This balances out the writing with the pictures and makes
the reader want to 'scan' the page to look at both the pictures
and the text.
ARTICLE
In my article I have asked questions such as 'How would you
describe your music?' 'Who writes your music?' 'What is the
first song you have ever covered?' 'What is next for you,
where do you see yourself in the future?' All of these
questions relate to music some way, which is why it is aimed
at the target audience. The girl that I interviewed was a
talented singer that was interested in growing her career in the
music industry, since my magazine is aimed at other
teenagers I feel as if my article can be a inspiration to those
who would like sing or be in the music industry. I also added
the aspect of fashion to my magazine because I feel that even
for those high up in the music industry fashion plays an
important part. You are judged, and looked at by the clothes
you where and the way you portray yourself. The girl on the
magazine was in a tight midi-dress, this outfit made her look
sophisticated, young and quirky which will drag the attention
of those who think she 'looks good' before know who she is or
what she sounds like.
AUDIENCE THEORIES
The audience theory is an element of thinking that
developed with academic literary theory and cultural
studies. When researching 'attracting audiences' I found
several theories such as The hypodermic needle model,
two step flow, uses and gratifications, reception theory,
Obstinate audience theory and the Hypermedia
seduction theory. The two step flow is the theory that
the people with most access to media, and the highest
media literacy explain and diffuse the content to others-
this is a modern version of the hypodermic needle
model. The hypodermic needle model is where the
intended message is directly received and wholly
accepted by the receiver. The way the
audience receive the media (magazine in this case) is
the way it is portrayed.
