Audience Research
Objective:
The aim of this questionnaire was to collect information and create a brief knowledge from the public to see what they want to see and how they believe horror films should be.
In most cases we tried to give the questionnaire to those who are most likely to be interested in our style and genre of trailer (15-24 age bracket), as we can then gain more relevant research and a useful understanding of what our intended viewers want to see.
Question types:
Throughout the questionnaire we predominantly used closed questions in order to gain quantitative data. However, at the end of most questions I left an option for ‘other’ and a space for the person taking the questionnaire to choose what they think as an alternative to what I had given them as their available ‘tick-box’ choices.
Analysis of results:
Below are several charts showing what we feel is the most important data gathered from our questionnaires.
What the graph shows and action points:
From the results that the questionnaire has given us, we found that our genre is relatively popular in terms of how often or if people would like to see a comedy film. We noticed that the majority preferred comedy, however quite a few enjoy dramas too, therefore combining the two genres would a perfect idea as then it covers all areas.
Another result gained from the research is the fact that 13 out of the 15 people who answered the questionnaire said that the trailer most persuades them into going to watch a film. This then means that we must focus more on our trailer in order to achieve the films maximum viewing potential.
Another question asked was ‘how often do you watch comedy films?’ This had mixed and varied reviews; however they were mainly positive for us because the majority claims to either always or sometimes watch comedy films.
A further question asked was based around the most important selling factors for a comedy film. In general, this gave us mixed reviews as neither of the options were overly popular. This means then we must try to apply all aspects to our trailer if we’re to address a larger audience The majority of the people said that tension was the most vital selling factor which I believe is a good result because it’s probably the easiest to create.
The final question raised was whether or not people believed if the comedy film should be based on a true story. This was fairly clear for us as a large amount of people disagreed to this question or had no preference, so therefore we must focus on a different unique selling point etc.
